    iTunes live streaming most likely.

Rumour is 4.2 has been delayed until the 24th.

    Yeah, just saw that.

    Engadget hasn't a clue either.

    Stop messing, Apple.

Yea, this big announcement is definitely the feature that's already been confirmed to be in 4.2, can't wait.

I really hope the guy who's waiting for a fix doesn't actually think the alarm on his phone doesn't work and knows that he just needs to delete his old alarms and create new ones....

A subscription music service would be pretty cool.
Access to the entire iTunes music catalogue for a flat monthly fee.

Could it be something small like 90 second song previews?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,716 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

Is it not just the iOS update? I've downloaded it but not synced yet. Anyone tried it?

They've included AirPlay but not AirPrint. Not too fussed as I haven't been streaming much from my iMac and Zumocast does the job anyway.

Couple of things, first off, why would they REANNOUNCE it? Stupid.

AirPrint is in 4.2, it just won't come out of the box with shared printers on the network instead it will print direct to select wifi printers.

You wouldn't be streaming it from your iMac, it would be cloud based.

No, it would have to be bigger than that.

I don't know, I'm asking a question, not making a statement. Apple have been known to do stupid things in the past you know. :)

I also am puzzled by this.

My favorite running theory is that the four clocks look like the cover of The Beatles' album "Help":

    Help.jpg
    teaser_title420101115.png

More realistically, it could be several things at once. Streaming + Beatles + 4.2 release, etc. My money - like most peoples' - is on some kind of streaming service. Any speculation is just that: we never know what way Apple is going to spin things.

The nature of the announcement is interesting too - why not keep it for a keynote? One might say that it being streamed shows how well the supposedly forthcoming streaming service works, but that could have been done at the last two keynotes (esp the September music event.) Or maybe they were testing their streaming service.

Apple acquired LaLa more than a year ago, and the massive data centre is apparently up and running. Time we saw some evidence of it.

    Spot on banquo

It was the addition of the Beatles to itunes......for the build up they gave it, it's pretty lame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

I'd say that, if it is the Beatles, that the big announcement was part of the deal. Fanfare = sales and I'd say Apple took it up the ass a few times to get this deal. If this is true. "You'll never forget", ugh. Marketing deal all the way.

Hopefully it's cloud streaming BUT that seems worthy of a keynote. This is less important than a keynote. So my money's on the fab four.

although, now that I can't sleep and am thinking about it, with a 100% cloud based content delivery system, they could make really cheap iPods/iPhones with hardly any storage.

    ...

Nah. Years away. There'll be a gen or two of 3G capable iPod touchs before that happens.

I have a spotify subscription and I love it. Would move to iTunes version in a flash - I would have thought that if that was the news, much more of a fanfare would have been made.

Have to agree with the rest - more likely to be the beatles now available through iTunes.

I don't think so. Jobs is a huge Beatles fan. And Apple have been trying to get them on iTunes since it opened. Besides, it's not really a big announcement. For Apple a big announcement involves massive auditoriums and several weeks notice, not a teaser on their site the day before.

The Wall Street Journal are quoting "sources close to the negotiations" and saying it is the Beatles.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Making a big song and dance about The Beatles? I'd hope there's more to it than just that..

The 'Beatles', is that the band that Paul McCartney was in before Wings?

I actually think it was just the right level of hype.

1 day's notice on the homepage of the site. Longtime fanboys will know about the Apple/Apple Corps dispute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 865 ✭✭✭Simon201

just need AC/DC now and iTunes is complete eh?

Seriously tho I'm the biggest Beatles fan but its as they say 'too little (well maybe not too little) too late...
I've either got the CD's or from.. cough... other sources!

Should have been there in 2003!

I love how you're all pissed it didn't live up to the imaginary hype. The hype that was entirely created in your own minds. Apple put up an announcement less than a day in advance, the only hype was media and forum driven, Apple's hype was proportionate. Any of the other stuff would get a bigger event.

    Ah come on...

"Tomorrow is just another day....that you'll never forget"

How on earth was that proportionate?

It was a stupid PR stunt, anyone who wanted the Beatles got them years ago

    I completely agree.

Also, any Apple heads will know that (finally) getting The Beatles on iTunes is a victory for Apple and a sign of how big a player they are in the industry. The Beatles were always latecomers to new methods of music distribution - they came to CDs a few years after everyone else, and likewise with records to tape.

I heard a rumour that he gave them to Paul McCartney in his will. The story I heard was so cool that it has to be false, Paul McCartney told MJ to get into buying rights to music and he ended up outbidding McCartney for the share of the rights. Jacko then felt bad about the whole thing and gave them to McCartney in his will.
