Theres a huge amount of labour in a head gasket, modern cars have so much crap attached to the engine it could take a couple of hours before you even get to the head..then theres the skimming ,possible other gaskets, cam belt,.etc.....be prepared for a big bill...:(

You'd be looking at a full days labour to remove and refit the head.

    Then add:
Pressure testing and skimming the head,
    A full headset(gaskets, seals etc)
New head bolts(have to be replaced on BM's)
    Coolant,
    Oil etc

Then the obvious question of why the head gasket went so possible replacement of water pump/thermostat/expansion bottle etc required too...

And, if its a 4 cylinder BM, the heads often don't survive any serious overheating so the whole lot would need to be replaced.

Might be cheaper to replace the whole block if the head is gone.

:confused:Then you'd have to buy a replacement block as well as a head?

There would be no reason to replace the block unless it had suffered a big end or piston related failure.
