    have an xps m1710 here.

ive only been using it for light work for college etc lately so ive been doing nothing intensive.

    temperatures are all very low,

but ive noticed the fans no longer run.

they dont run when i turn on the laptop.
they dont run in windows 7.
they dont run when i try to do something intensive that requires a lot of gpu power.

however, i did a re-install of windows 7 over the weekend, first off i went to repair windows 7, and the fans started! so i abandoned this idea, and did a full clean install.

    and still the same problem.

    any suggestions?

ive also restored the bios settings back to default, still nothing. getting worried now.

Fan behaviour should be independent of the OS. So I would say it was a coincidence that they started running again when you installed Win7.

The fans are connected to the mobo with a little connector, see if its loose. If thats not the case then maybe the fan(s) themselves are dead or dying.

I had the same laptop and I recall that there were some settings in the bios for the fan speed etc.

Have a look there (usually F1 or Del on boot) - it's worth a go.
