Anyone familiar with the MX5

Anyone familiar with the Mazda MX5. My buddy has a 1996 series 2 MX5 1.6 which is now refusing to start. It has fuel pressure but injectors are not injecting & there is no spark. We suspect the key recognition/immobilizer but after doing a bit of Googling the cam & crank sensor also cause similar issues. Anyone have similar issues or have any ideas?. Is there anyway of bypassing the immobilizer.

    T.

Mate of mine had a similiar problem a while back, it was a dodgy ECU, I hope yours is something simpler.

An early MX-5 (20 years old) could be insured as a classic car at this stage. That is good enough for me to leave this thread in Classic Cars :)
