Agreed, the time difference makes this a non starter sadly.

They did it with Summerslam back in 92 and it was classed as a disaster.

It's not just a matter of time zones, but the sheer money they have to pump into such a show.

Unlike house shows, for example, you've got to bring over camera crews and all the backstage people, massive sets, the bigger ring and all that other stuff, thus increasing the amount you've got to pay to do it. I know they do it for the Raw show, but they'd have to go even bigger than that.

Plus it would be a nightmare to host a huge show like Mania at around 12-1am in the UK logistically.

Mexico is somewhere I could see them taking Mania as its a market that Vince and co know they can make serious money out of.

Do they use bigger rings for WM?

They use bigger rings (iirc) on televised events than they do at house shows.

If I remember, it's a 16x16 ring for house shows and 20x20 for TV and PPVs.

The time difference and cost mean this is a non starter.

I remember reading a few years ago (when they initially set up the london office of wwe) that when wwe comes to ireland and england they use a set up, as in ring, little entrance and bigger one for raw live from england thats always over there.

When you take that into consideration what chances are they have of actually producing any kind of show on such a major scale?

I'd say we are more likely to see a ppv from london being made a regular thing than we ever see a WM outside the americas.

Even then, I think it would be a sub-standard PPV. I'm having memories of one which was headlined by Brock vs Edge back when Edge was nowhere near main event. The problem with UK based PPVs would be that they would know the buyrates would suffer and thus nothing major, outside the odd Diva or secondary title switch, would happen :/

They don't need a UK based PPV anyway. They've enough exposure with Sky showing all the shows every week and the tours already sell very well by the looks of it.

I use to enjoy the uk ppvs you were always guaranteed a ttle change and it was fun watching a live wwe ppv at 7 o clock at night. I'd love to even see an event like survivor series in London you know a big 4 ppv

I think it was classed as a disaster in terms of ppv buys - which is where the real money is made. I'd say that Vince would hardly break even at Mania every year on direct buys alone.

I think it will happen. More likely Asia than Europe though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,348 ✭✭✭✭ricero

I wouldn't mind seeing it in Asia I just think it's maybe time wrestlemania starts broading out to other continents. If wrestlemania was to happen in wembley stadium the attendance would definy be over 100,000

Yep, as long as WWE tour in Europe (house shows twice a year and also doing TV tapings) there'll be no big shows here. We don't even have those UK-only PPVs anymore.

It would be really amazing. They should do SummerSlam 2014 in London again. They won't, but they should. As a thank you to the international market, who are now pretty much half of all PPV buys.

DB's right, we might get to see a PPV in China down the line. The attendance would be massive. And we'd get a sweet start time :)

    Would you?

Im in Taiwan, so China time, and we are 8hrs atm ahead of Ireland GMT and a further 5 hours ahead of America.

When Raw usually goes live its 9/10am here, 1/2am in Ireland and 8/9pm in the USA.

Wrestlemania will not start here earlier than 9am. So unless the show goes live first thing in the morning in the place its on it would be the usual time Ireland gets PPVs for the Americans and the absolute middle of the night/morning in Ireland before the PPV starts unless im mistaken.

Its 8pm here now. If WM started at this time Ireland would get WM starting at mid-day, some would love that, others not so much because of work. However in America It would be stating at 7am and I really dont think the WWE would want to market their biggest PPV of the year to American with a 7am start time.

Ha, that's awesome. Stay away from dem darn chicken feet! Mank... :pac:

8 hours ahead, if they did 7-11pm in China it'd be 11am-3pm over here. Much more manageable than the usual! It'd be a Sunday too so i'd be down.

Maybe not Mania in China. SummerSlam or Series would be less of a drag; since the PPVs done fare as well as Mania/Rumble.

Maybe i'm missing something, but why 2014?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Ah. I meant SummerSlam 1992; since they were in Wembley :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,888 ✭✭✭Charisteas

Oh yeah, well they could have Summerslam at Wembley in 2012 and it would be the 20th anniversary of that original show.

I know it's not essential, but do you guys think a Wrestlemania would sell out Wembley Stadium in this day and age? We're talking around 95,000 people.

i say a big PPV in Mexico in a few years is a good shout as its a market that Vince is always keen on. Also Cena v Rey in Mexico would be a license to print money.

I can see it now, Wrestlemania in Mexico, Rey wins the WWE Championship, and Alberto Del Rio wins the World Heavyweight Championship.

No I think it would be them 2 in the main event for the wwe chaMpionship. I'd love to see a ppv in england with Barrett winning the gold
