Waxoyl questions

I finally got around to Waxoyling the arches on my Mk3 earlier today. I used the 5 litre can with the spray attachment. I do however have a few questions to ask:

    1. While I know it doesn't 'dry' fully, how long does it take to dry to the point it's not messy to touch?

    2. Being in the arches, it's going to get covered with dirt and what not when I'm driving the car, the question is, can I use a power hose in the arches now or will this just wash it off?

    3. Will dirt stick too it?

It says on the can it's suitable for use in the arches, but it gives very little other information.

    Thanks.

AFAIK it's only for use in non-exposed areas, ie in the arches but behind the liners. I'm no expert, though.

^ Says on the can it can be used on the arches and the underbody too.

I'm afraid I exhausted my 'knowledge' of Waxoyl in my last post.

I assume you used Waxoyl clear, which never actually dries, thats the whole point ! However it is really a "cavity wax" and generally I would use the black stuff under the arches !

Yes the dirt will stick to it and no you cant really wash it off. To take it off you would need plenty of hot water and white spirits.

I used Wurths cavity wax today on a w123 inside bottoms of doors inner wheel arches, wells under bonnet hinges, front inner edges of bonnet and boot door. This stuff would dry to a fairly solid wax in a few days in fine weather more like a few weeks this time of year:rolleyes: The clear waxoyl should eventually dry but would take a long time in this weather.

........my experience with the cavity clear stuff is that it dries quicker in colder weather. However it shrinks when applied to metal that is too cold. Best to have the car hot and the wax VERY hot. If there are big cavities, like sills, its best to heat the metal so the stuff actually flows and runs into the joints.

After cleaning/vacuuming out the door bottoms I warmed them up with a heat gun . Didn't think to heat up the can of wax. Must do that next time. Last car I done took three or four good hot summer days before the wax set properly. I think this kind of work is best done during our so called summer..

The clear waxoyl is for inner cavities and the black stuff is applied by brush to exterior/exposed items.

I've the black waxoyl in my wheel arches and I can hose it and, no, dirt doesn't seem to stick to it!
