Samsung TV turning itself off!

I have a 40" Samsung plasma TV LCD. The problem started yesterday. It just knocks itself off as it there is a power cut. No red standby light like you'd get when using the controls to turn it off. It won't turn back on until I turn the wall socket off and leave it for a while. When I turn the wall socket back on the tv turns on without any need to use the controls etc. But after a bit it will turn off again.

Luckily I have a warranty on it and hopefully the guys from the shop I got it will be able to fix or replace it but I was wondering is this a common problem, something that will be ongoing? Does it simply involve getting a replacement part that even I could install? I have it less than 18mths!

could be a lot of things, dodgy power supply board, dodgy system controller.

if you have to ask, i wouldn't touch it, especially as you have a warranty, why take on yourself to fix what someone who knows what they are doing can do for free?

Forgive me for possibly pointing out the obvious but have you checked that the power cable at the back is pushed in securely? Mine somehow managed to work its way loose, probably when I shifted the stand a bit.

    It is what it's.

No fear of me doing a MacGuyver on it, I was just wondering if it was a simple thing that once the technician explained to me (if he cared to divulge trade secrets ;)) I could sort myself i.e. buy the part, unscrew a panel and replace it. Anyway the guy is due to pick it up tomorrow, luckily I kept my old tv (big bulky back, relatively small screen) the breeze block as it's fondly known.

As for loose wires, a fair point. I made sure they were in properly but now that I have it unplugged etc and awaiting collection I'm feeling paranoid that maybe I didn't check properly :).

Hopefully they tell me the problem when it returns and I'll post it.
