You are viewing the digital tuner. Change it to the analogue tuner and you will get the 15 channels again.

Dunno what Minstrel is on about, you can't receive the NTL/UPC digital channels without a decoder.

To receive all the analogue channels, you'll need to have VHF I, VHF III and UHF tuner support (throw in Hyperband support as well, just to further confuse the issue). If it's a UK-targeted TV, it's quite possible it only has a UHF tuner (and so you're missing out on the channels on the other frequencies). I don't have an up to date channel frequency list for NTL, but my first guess is that's the issue anyway.

Make sure the TV is not set to the UK.
If there is no Ireland option, choose Other.
If it asks you to scan for analogue or digital, choose analogue.

UK does not use the VHF frequency band, which is where UPC broadcast the vast majority of their analogue channels. Setting "UK" on most TVs disables scanning in the VHF region. Setting Other will generally have the TV scan the entire television band so should pick them up.

A few TVs are appearing on the market with a DVB-C digital tuner built-in. Some of the digital channels are broadcast without encryption so can be received by TVs with a DVB-C tuner.

I think this is the problem, the telly was half price so maybe that was the reason it was so cheap. Will I be able to get a Decoder for it or is it just useless ?

On the country selection all is there is UK, Luxembou, Portugal, Australia, Italy and a few other Eastern EU countries but not Ireland. Knew it was too good to be true!

Would it even work if I was to get another an ntl box as multi room viewing? havent got around to checking it on the other telly, im assuming no ?

yes it will work if you get another box

because the box itself does all the decoding

I have a Sony that suggests otherwise.

Those channels the op said he was getting are not encrypted.

Actually you can, if the TV tune support it, most (but not all) of the digital Chanel's are encrypted, which is why the OP might be getting a few.

    Also possible.

Any tv with a DVB-C tuner will receive the channels mentioned by the OP.

You really shouldn't dismiss something if you don't know what you are talking about.

Thanks everyone for their input, going to go with multi room with upc for 5 euro extra a month which will get me the extra channels and the recording function.

Although a family member bought the same TV, could someone point me in the direction of a cheap decoder which will work to get the 15 channels ?
