Insurance Question

Ok I have 1.4 Golf, I noticed that the 1.6 up to the 3.2 engine Golfs all have a badge at the rear stating the engine size. The 1.4 has no badge and is just plain where lets say it would have 1.6 on if it was a 1.6 Golf. I see the idea behind it,when somebody see's a 1.4 they don't think much but if they don't know what engine is in it ,it could be anything.

I have seen one or two saying 16V where the engine badge should be but I would like to put a TDI, GTI or 1.6 badge on it or something.

Would doing that warrant telling My insurance company or would it affect it at all?

    Thanks.

It won't affect your insurance at all. What it will do (IMO) is make you look like a bit of an eejit.:)

Put the GTi badge on it and it will look like it's a limited edition version with non body coloured side mouldings, 1398cc tax disc and non recaro seats.

My advice: if you want a GTi badge then buy a GTi Golf. Badging a car as something it is not will make it look worse than if it has no badge at all. All the tulips driving 1.4 "Type R" Civics are living proof of this...

GTI is out of the question, it would take a bit of work and it would still look terrible.I've seen a few GTI's that are badged. They just changed the rear lights and a stuck on the badge and You can tell when walking past it's not. From a distance sometimes it's hard to tell though and I can see the appeal in doing it, hence My question.

BMW & Porsche charge extra for this. Their new car price-lists include an option called "model designation deletion" so you're in exclusive company.

its a bit weird having badges on a car anyway telling you the engine size, trim level or gearbox type....who cares except the driver? Handsome is as handsome does they say...

If I had a 1.4 golf, I'd debadge it, IMO debaged looks better than having a 1.4 on it or making yourself look like an idiot, GTi or TDi!

The German marques have always offered badge deletion at no charge.
