a bit unorthodox but handy, cheap and healthy. Drive to somewhere like Clonskeagh or Rathgar and cycle the rest of the way. You might get weird looks but just do it!

Lots of women cycle with no problems.

Anyway, that's a hell of a commute. I doubt moving closer to your workplace is an option given your family situation, but if you can, do.

How did you commute before your maternity leave? Can you not simply continue that way?

before i went on maternity leave we were based at citywest... no although i have thought about renting my house and renting up there but it wouldnt be fair to uproot over a job

Train to Heuston and route 145 to Leeson Street. You should be able to get it all on a single ticket with Taxsaver. Consider car sharing or indeed moving or having digs for a few nights per week. www.taxaver.ie

I know a couple in Athy who commute up and they find it not so bad driving when they are both travelling. However, if only one is travelling, the economics are quite different. I think they have free parking and that also makes a big difference.

    Hey buttercupno5,

Just wondering how you are getting on with your commute? I am looking at almost the exact same commute  and trying to weigh up the options. Any advice?

    Thanks,
    Rosen

    Hi Rosen,

Sorry about the delay in replying. I started off on the train i think it was roughly costing about €23 a day. I think the train has now went up 50 cent.
I dropped the baby off at the childminders at 7 and caught the 7:10 train. I then got the 145 bus just in front of heuston train station, got off at lower lesson street and cut across to the national concert hall and straight on up then to adelaide rd. I was making it in for 9:00. If you are doing a 5 day week you could get the weekly or monthly ticket.(there was one advantage of this.. great exercise)
I am now car pooling and starting at 9:30. I meet the others at naas so I dont have to leave the baby off until 7:45 and I am roughly getting home the same time as I would be on the train. I am def saving by doing this.
Its worth checking out car spaces around the area they vary in price from €150-180 and maybe if there is someone that works with you coming from the west of the city or even kildare/carlow you could car pool?
