I was offered a job pending background checks. The amount of paperwork involved is unreal.

    I have to provide:

Employment history in the last 5 years.
References to cover the last 5 Years.
    Bank statement
    Utility bill
    Copy of the passport.
    Bank details.
Fill in an onboarding application form.
Signed consent that they can run criminal background checks.
Fill in VHI and pension form.
All the previous addresses in the last 5 years.
    P45/P46
All the info on the education in the last 5 years.
    Signed contract.
    Medical report.

Now i have to wait up to 4 weeks for them to process all that and come back to me to confirm the start date.

Anyone ever had to to the same?

What type of job is this? I've never had to provide anything close to that level of detail.

I'd be very slow to hand over my bank details and several samples of my signature to anyone.

That seems like a HUGE amount of personal information to hand over. Call me paranoid, but I'd be worried about identity theft. With that much information on someone, you could attempt a lot of fraud, apply for credit cards and possibly even loans / credit.

What kind of job is this ?

ir does sound a little over the top. the one I dont like is the bank statement, as when I would move between jobs I woukld slightly over state my previous pay, the bank statement could catch you out

I think most of that is pretty normal...

    BUT..

    The bank statement??

Is it for proof of address ie: utility bill and bank statement?

If they specifically want to see your balance and tranactions I'd be annoyed, but then again if you have access to a lot of sensitive information and could (not saying you would :)) possibly be an IT wizard and secretly transfer millions into your own account ?

Maybe they want to see if their potential new employees need a few bob?

If it had been me I would have given top part of bank statement just showing address.

I'd imagine many companies have had in the past various situations involving, work visas, theft, maybe false medical things etc. It seems to me they are covering every possible scenario.

    Best of luck :)

Sounds like a financial institution, possibly Swiss:confused: This is now fairly normal in the industry and in fact if it is a foreign institution, such as the Swiss, it is a legal requirement.

    Good luck with that,

    Jim.

That is just about the same amount required for Google.

That is a four month recruitment process. I still havnt got a call back saying I havn't been succesful, but I've all but assumed it.

But they wanted alot of details, me to fill alot of forms and for me to photocopy alot of documentation to send on.

Not to mention the possability of a telephone interview, webcam interview, another telephone interview and then you might get lucky to get a REAL interview.

If they'd done that sort of checking on some of the senior people in financial institutions in the last few years, maybe the country wouldn't be in as much mess as it is now!

I'm actually surprised there's no consent for a credit check as well.

Had to do more or less that to work for a Poker site.

    All about trust and security.

A few years ago had a job offer from a trading company and had to provide similar stuff, the bank account stuff i think is to make sure youre not in debt and is probably better than a credit check.

This is very normal for a company that works in a financial area.

I had to do this for my role also. its all very standard and jsut to ensure you werent in jail over that period of time.

It was brought in by some authoirty in charge of the finacnial stuff and it isnt an Irish Authority

Pretty normal for a financial company. I had interview with bank of america and if i had have got the job i would have had to do all this.

I currently work in security company and ive had to do this and its for 10 years not 5 so pretty normal.

Just make sure its a legit company and your not handing all your info over to a scammer :)

Yes it is a well known company no scam there. I was just surprised about the amount of info they needed. After a bit of a research it seems its a standard procedure. All I have to do now is wait...not easy though i want this job so badly and i am a bit nervous about those checks, not that did anything in the past that would disqualify me but hate the waiting game
