Have the Aviva or the IRFU priced most supporters out of the seats? I mean the showing at the last two games was pathetic to be honest, I wanted to go see the Ireland v NZ game but at that price for a ticket, plus travel plus beer/food id nearly buy christmas for that!!!

if they had priced the tickets at lower more competitive price eg 60-70 euro you wouldnt have been able to go either as it would have sold out. the demand would far out stripped the supply.

at the price they have at the moment there are tickets about so the people who really want to go as opposed to the people who just have a passing interest or want to see the haka will go.

now i personally think the tickets are way too expensive and did when they were in croker too. but people bought them and my friends / colleagues slagged me cos i didnt as i couldnt afford them.

30,000 or so were at the game today. im not sure how many went to the rds last year for the fiji game but the rds can only hold 18/19,000.

id love to see the actual profit the irfu are making.

it has been a marketing disaster though

You want value for money?? Well, for €125 (about the same price as one match in a standard to crappy north terrace pitch side, no view seat in the Autumn Internationals) with Leinster you get a premium corporate seat on the premium level (padded for your pleasure), early entrance to the game, a free bar for a couple of hours, meet the Leinster players who will be mingling with the crowd and chatting, food and late access to the corporate bar post game also, and you get to see the French Champions and two of the biggest names in European rugby clash in a CRUCIAL crunch game in the biggest club competition in the northern hempisphere in a sold out stadium and an electric atmosphere... (over 30,000 sold a month before kick off)

Which sounds like a pretty amazing day, especially compated to paying the same price to see a sh*t match v Samoa in possibly terrible seats...

Save your money and spend it on your province, and if you boycott an international match, this is the kind of thing you can treat yourself to.

After the AI's a couple of seasons ago when I paid c. €100 for AI games, I felt so robbed sitting up in the nose bleeds right in the corner with a sh*t view and watched half the game on the screen I vowed never to go to another international again and instead spent the money on away trips in ML & Europe with Leinster, which obviously were infinitely more enjoyable and worked out about the same price wise...

I think you'd be a fool to go to international games.

€2.50 for a bottle of coke is greed too. Pathetic, there not just happy to rob us for a ticket but for anything inside the stadium too.

Don't get me wrong I think the ticket prices and amount of empty seats is a farce. But I'm afraid that things won't change much. Taking the AB's game for example think of it from IRFU perspective:

    €125 ticket x 30,000 = €3.75 million
    €60 ticket x 51,000 = €3.06 million

How much does bar/food and merchandise sales account for on matchday though? That's one reason why you'd prefer a bigger crowd with a lower ticket price.

true, but think of the SA game instead. Half fill the ground at 100 a ticket, or fill it for 70 a ticket. You make the same amount but the buzz around the event it much better, players and coaches are not distracted in the leadup about the ticket farce. They walk out to a great reception, not stunned at how empty the ground is. The players get a lift and possibly get a win. You start the AI series off with a feelgood factor and having priced Samoa at 30 upward it sells out too and we continue form with a big win. Leading into AB game with a bit of hope and an excited crowd...

    It doesn't.
Its already outsourced by the stadium to sub-contractors who have paid for the vendor rights.

Have they already paid in full, or signed a contract for X years where they agree to pay a certain amount?

If its the former, and the crowds continue to be poor then then the vendors have to continue to see their bottles of Coke at €2.50 or more, and the public gets more pissed off.

If its the latter and attendances don't improve then I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the sub-contractors walk away, close the company, and tell the IRFU to swing for the money.

I read recently where an Irish athlete was given free tickets to the South Africa match by the IRFU. Why should the ordinary fan have to pay such huge ticket prices if they can afford to give away tickets to VIP`s? I wonder how many free tickets are given out for each match?

No more than usual and this kind of thing is not exclusive to rugby or even sport in any country.
There are VIPs at any large event you can think of.

Don't listen to the canuck - all he knows about is ice hockey/dancing!

I think they really need to bring in a proper tiered pricing policy. A seat in the corner will never be worth the same as a seat in the front row in the middle of the park. The provinces seem to know this (RDS do anyway) so why is this so completely lost on the money grabbers IRFU

Jackass is right. Family ticket tomorrow night for Munster v Australia is €100 (2 adults 2 kids stand tickets).
I nearly bought a AI package but thankfully looking at the dire fare on offer and the shameful ticket policy of the IRFU I am glad I followed my hunch and said these prices are ridiculous.
I am foremost a Munster supporter and tbh I would prefer to see a Magner's league game than Samoa or Argentina, but I try to get to Dublin once or twice a year for an international. Was really looking forward to seeing the new stadium but the price just makes it a nonsense.
I would hazzard a guess that the atmosphere tomorrow will be better than any game in the Aviva and the match might be a bit more creative too.
We have been ridden long enough by these muppets - €75 last year for SA in that graveyard Croke Park was bad but they have really landed on their own sword.
