Well, Im driving a 07 1.9 Golf Tdi.Tax 580 now-more after this bloody budget. How much would tax be for a 08 onwards reg. I think this is a ridiculous amount as it is.Was thinking of goin up a year to avoid the higher tax.Might get something bigger like a passat or something. We had a baby in May so more space needed.Thoughts?

Id wait until after the budget. The post 08 tax may be increased.

Also, have you estimated the cost to change versus the tax savings? A few grand cost to go up a year will buy a few years of tax.

Eg: Cost to change perhaps 3,000€, with tax saving of €300 per annum means that you need to own the car for 10 years before you see a saving, and thats not allowing for future increases.

Ill bet all taxes are going up in the budget. Tax saving based on current rates would be more like 420 p/a if you get something in the 156 bracket. Expect there to be a big difference in the cost of going up a year.

Having said all that, if you're changing for a bigger car anyway you should do your sums to see how things stack up.

Oh, I got a saloon last year when mini-me was born. I really miss the hatchback.

Its not as simple as saying it will take 10 years to recoup the difference. The 08 car will be worth more in the end so if you were only keeping your car for a couple of years, the 08 would still be worth alot more than the 07 for tax reasons alone never mind being a year never.
However in the case of a golf if its only going from 580 to 300 tax approx, I wouldnt go changing for tax reason.
There are however cars that change from 1600 tax to 630 tax from 07 to 08. certainly worth getting the 08 in those circumstances

Dont change up a year. Go for a new one or a 2010 model and get 105 p/a tax. Good 07 cars are scarce now so you should get a good trade price op.

    Tax on a 08 is 302 btw.

Tax on the 535d is bloody 1400 odd for a 2007, something like 600 for a 2008. Obviously the 2007 model is more than twice as damaging to the environment!

Yep the 535d is 630 from 08. Nice price tbh.

Biggest change I know of is the Lexus GS450h 1600 odd for 07, 630 for 08.

Very good. Nice car and there cheap enough actually. The A8 hardly dropped in 08. When I get money again I would consider the Bmw or the Lexus.

    Sorry mods off topic.
