What happens if you left click on the desktop.. could have been changed to left handed mouse?

have you gone in to Control Panel | Mouse and see what the settings are in there... Also is it just on the desktop that it does not work? I mean have you tried the functions within?

as ive said yes, just desktop and inside folders, ive enabled the menus in the bar, and can do what i need to do from there, but its a pain in the hole !

    fecked if im re-installing,
i use linux for most of my daily tasks...ahh well !!

I heard something like this before and Google gives this which you could try:

Group policy editor, go to Run –> gpedit.msc –> User Configuration –> Administrative Templates –> Windows Components –> Windows Explorer. In the right hand pane, find “Windows Explorer’s default context menu”, open its properties by double clicking it. If it’s enabled or not configured, disable it and your context menu will be back as soon as you apply this policy.

Found this on a google search.. seems to be what you are looking for:

    http://www.technize.com/cannot-right-click-desktop-or-in-windows-explorer/

    From Registry Editor
To re-enable your context menu from the registry, go to Run –> regedit –> HKEY_CURRENT_USER –> Software –> Microsoft –> Windows –> CurrentVersion –> Policies –> Explorer. In the right hand pane find “NoViewContextMenu”, set its value to 0 if it exists. If you still can’t right click your desktop, then you can look for the same key here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE –> Software –> Microsoft –> Windows –> CurrentVersion –> Policies –> Explorer
