I work for a big Security firm. Theres nothing comkplicated to do on any of yhe sites we work in/on. A bit of computer skills desired, not even mandatory. In some sites, yes, you need to know. now they are trying to sack eight of us, although 4 of us are senior to 4 who are not getting the push. Where does the law stand on this.?

Basically doesn't matter who's first in or out, it will be more expensive with redundancy payments for those their longer so they may try to get rid of those their a short while as it will be cheaper and they may want to keep their more experienced staff.

Unfair selection for redundancy is grounds for an unfair dismissal claim. The selection criteria for redundancy must be clear and fair.

Agreed it has to be fair and clear...

There is no compulsion for the criteria to be First in Last out and there is nothing to stop it being based on any skill no matter how simple it seems...

However there needs to be good documented process for selection on any grounds especially if not Last in First out, and in the event of an appeal the EAT will want to hear a strong case as to why Last in First out wasn't used...
