I had the original iphone 2g when it came out. It broke anyway and i wasn't in a position to buy another one so have been using a "normal" phone for the past year! I know a lad selling his old ihpone 3g and am tempted to buy it but I don't know should I hang on and save up a bit more for the newer and more expensive 3gs or is it worth it! The 3g is going fairly cheap so it would be a sizeable increase to a 3gs!

    Any thoughts??

Definitely definitely hold out for the 3GS. The difference between 2G and 3G was actually pretty small - but the 3GS improves speed significantly. iOS 4 (the current version), doesn't run on the 2G models (as I'm sure you're aware), and it really doesn't run well on the 3G, but works perfectly on the 3GS. Given the new precedent of supporting hardware for 3 major software revisions, the 3G won't be able to run iOS 5 (whenever that may be), but the 3GS will.

I'd even say hold out a bit longer and save for an iPhone 4. I had a 3GS and upgraded to a 4 and I love it!
