AH is great for being able to let off a bit of steam and for a good old debate, albeit debating of the same 3-4 topics on repeat...

Most people are so negative about the state of the nation and how fcuked we are, however a recent thread which involved a poll showed only around 25% of boardies were actually on the dole...

The news during the week about the bike scheme being extended was a great success story. The greatest success of any city in the world to date, only two bikes robbed and both recovered..

The smoking ban was another success, albeit with its begrudgers, the majority of whom have come round..

So fcuk the negativity for a while...let's be a be bit positive for a bit and give your opinion on what else that we, as a nation, can be proud of..

Or you can abuse the OP, whatever you want, whatever floats your boat!

Tis true and I respect the spirit of th OP so instead of going "yeah but...." i'm going to add that I'm proud of Ireland as a sporting nation producing world class rugby teams year on year in Munster, Leinster and of course the national side.

Can we try to keep negativity out of this thread? pleeeeeeeeze

The bikes are a wonderful project.I hope they replicate it in other towns.

The smoking ban was great too.One of the best things ever in fact.

Thanks for the little dose of positivity.Often I'm so pissed off that I forget there are some people in Ireland trying to make it a better place for it's people.

I'd say the scumbags are too cool/weak to ride a pusbike.I can see hammered drunks taking one and leaving it in a canal without remembering he's got a deposit on it.They don't look like the sort of bike you could sell on to easily.

    They are virtually scobe-proof

When you said "we're not that bad" I assumed you were referring to the economy which is the general bad thing that people are talking about.

I think the government handled the foot & mouth crises superbly.
Probably one of their best achievements in the last decade

Not sure if many remember it.

Look across to the UK to see how to get entirely mess this up

"Only" 25%?? Jesus. Also, bear in mind that internet access and internet-devices cost money (although then again, unemployed people would probably have more time to waste on boards...). Results of an online poll will inevitably be inaccurate.

Of course 25% is high but that's not my point. All I'm saying is that you swear EVERYONE here was on the dole the way we go on..

Ya our economy is fcuked, we all fcuked up...the banks, the government, the people who voted for the government and took out their 110% mortgages..

But there's not a lot we can do now bar get rid of the government in the next election etc.

But apart from this monster of all fcuk ups Ireland got some things right over the years..

My small business sales have more than quadrupled since compared to 2007 and things are nice and steady. I reckon if we all turned off the news and the radio we'd notice little difference, apart from the poor folks who've lost their jobs of course.

It's true. And fully expected. Think about it as hard as you can. Why would someone rob a Dublin Bike? They can't sell them, they can't ride them around forever, they are heavy, cumbersome, they aren't stylish or cool. To be honest, your post proves how little you know about your capital city.

I dont mind discussing or reading about the economy or government or recent court cases where posts are informative and there's a good debate going. It's the hysteria and mob mentality that I find depressing

But sure isn't there lots to be happy about too, there's always some funny story knocking around somewhere and it's that that you should be thinking about before bed as opposed to the negative shít

Not really a nation's pride but my own personal proud happy thing:

I bought new black leather skinny trousers...

It's like all my Christmases (sp?) at once...

I always wanted a pair of skin tight black leather trousers...

    and now I have them...

    I'm happy :)

edit... they're not real leather but they look most excellent even if I do say so myself ! ;-)

and if you ask for pics gtfo ;-)

And what will happen to all those foreign industries when we're forced to raise the corporate tax in line with other European countries?

I love how this thread is meant to be about the good things in Ireland and all we can find is a bike scheme and a smoking ban. Surely there must be more good news to share? No?
