There seems to be a difference between the RAW image and the JPEG - the former being the more natural looking while the latter just makes it a good bit brighter and not the desired effect. Any reason why it's doing this? Seems a bit odd.

    Thanks.

Some RAW convertors respect the camera settings and so give you a file that looks similar to the jpeg, some don't, those ones will give you whatever the default settings for your model is, the image may loo nothing like the jpeg.

What software did you use to convert the RAW?

hat picture styles do you have setup on you camera

the jpeg will be affected by them, where as some raw converters dont understand them and so ignore the settings

It's where you let a guy in Japan make decisions about your photographs.

I think that the problem here is that you do not understand the difference between a Jpeg & RAW file.

The RAW file is just the sensor data recorded to a file. The image you see is just a representation of that data, but will be quite flat and in need of processing. The jpeg has been processed in the camera according to the algorithms in the software and your settings and is drawn from the RAW data.

There will be settings which can be chosen as to how you want the jpeg to be processed in the camera.

Maybe try a Factory Reset and start from there, one of the Canon Heads will be able to tell you where that is in the menus.
