Silvercrest KH 2389 - no key to pry it out..

Picked up my new car yesterday... well, an 03 1.2L VW Polo. Bought it from a dealer with a warranty, for peace of mind... and it was a nice price, and a superb drive.

It came with a Silvercrest KH 2389.. but it's acting a little odd.

The display is dimmed until you press it in firmly and it displays at full brightness (albeit temporarily), was driving yesterday and the radio shot up to full volume all of a sudden... I thought the contacts might be dodgy so I tried to clean them but it's still the same.

Could it be that the power has came loose in the back? I have the instruction manual but I think it requires a metal slender key to pry it out (which I don't have).

Anyone have suggestions? Can I pick one up in Halfords?

The electric wing-mirrors aren't working.. but that's probably a blown fuse.

That's a problem with the flip down face on the front, there are copper contacts on both sides, make sure front face is correctly clicked in.

If it is then remove the face altogether by flipping it down and unclipping.
Clean the contacts on the back of the face with rubbing alcohol and cotton bud, and make sure the corresponding contacts on the radio front are clean and straight. Be careful as these ones are much more delicate than the ones on the face.

As for the mirrors, bring it to the dealers

The face is clipped in fine alright..

.. it's more than likely with the contacts.

Anything else I could use besides rubbing alcohol? Don't have a ready supply of it.. unless Jameson counts! ;)

Yeah, I'm bringing it to the dealers to fix the mirrors on Monday.

YOu could use nail varnish remover, don't get any on the plastic as it may damage it.

White Spirits would probably do, wouldn't it?

Got rubbing alcohol and a couple of cotton buds..

.. cleaned copper contacts on the back of the unit, and on the radio front. And then let them dry!

They were dirty but it made no difference! :(

MAke sure the contacts on the radio side are sticking out enough, adjust out with a pin,

Will give a go now.. and let you know. Ta!

    Nope, they all seem fine.

Don't know what to do with it. I've a good Sony stereo in my old car, so might just get that instead.

But I'd be a bit peeved as it was advertised with a CD Player, which is clearly faulty.
