Non-National Parent to be of Irish Child - Can I start my own business?

    Hi Guys,

My Girlfriend (who is Irish) and I are expecting our first child in July 2011. I am from Australia and am working here on a work permit.

Once our baby is born, am I able to start my own business like a normal Irish citizen can? I believe it is extremely difficult to start a business as a non-national in normal circumstances.

I have always worked for myself in Aus and would like to here.

Any Advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    DH

Can you not put the business in your girlfriend's name??

afaik, you just need one Irish director in the business - that'll be herself and then it doesn't matter if you're from timbuktoo, once you adhere to the rules & regulations.

This says you just need to be an EU resident, nothing about nationality:
