    Hi,

We have a campervan, fiat Ducato 2004, and the ABS and ASR indication light are always on.

I mailed a few Fiat dealers in Cork a month ago, none of them find the time and need to reply to me. two weeks later I mailed fiat.ie, even they don't have find the time or need to reply me.

Please any one, help me find someone who is able to fix this issue.

    Regards, Vincent...

The ABS and ASR are two different lights
The ABS has a brake drum symbol and the ASR has a wheel kicking up gravel symbol.

The ASR should only come on if one of the front wheels is loosing grip and the ASR is cutting. There is a switch on the dash which can be used to turn off the function, for example if you are on ice and want to try an manage the situation without the ASR cutting in. It's an optional extra which if not working will not be missed, it is usually only specified as standard on the more powerful versions of vehicles.

ABS is an entirely different matter, if it's not working then control of the vehicle could be compromised if you need to apply the brakes hard and steer at the same time, the stopping distance will also be considerably longer particularly in the wet. Without operative ABS the front wheels could lock up and without effective steering

    BTW
ASR is an add-on to the ABS system - with ABS you can also have ASR but not the other way round.

    ABS - Anti-lock Braking System
    ASR - Anti Slip Regulation

My advice is take it to a dealer or your local friendly garage.

It could be something as simple as a sensor needing replacing in one of the wheels, or a loose connection.

On a more serious side it could be something like the ABS Pump. Best thing is take it to someone show has OBDII Machine to run a diagnostic on the van, it'll tell you what's wrong with it.

Don't think the ducato is obdII in 2004
You can use fiatecuscan to scan it. http://www.fiatecuscan.net

This is the same bosch pump that fails in so many vehicles repair is easy.

You Sure? OBDII was rolled out to diesels in 2001 / 2002 IIRC

    8.2. Vehicles with compression-ignition engines
    Vehicles of category M1, except
    - vehicles designed to carry more than six occupants including the driver,
    - vehicles whose maximum mass exceeds 2500 kg,
from 1 January 2003 for new types and from 1 January 2004 for all types, must be fitted with an on-board diagnostic (OBD) system for emission control in accordance with Annex XI.

No requirement in this case, the ducato has the obd connector but when I have tried reading an 03 and 05 ducato with standard obd software I got some nonsense and unreliable readings, readings are perfect with fiatecuscan using the same cable. EOBD can have all sorts of protocols too so its not as easy as people think.

Take it any good car mechanic with a Diagnostic computer it doesn't have to be a Fiat Specialist.
