I am in 6th year of secondary school and I really need to start being less stressed.

Is it true that Yoga works because I never get around to doing it, but I really need to do something soon.

You could look into mindfulness meditation, I did a course on it in Dublin, it is hard to get into but its great for destressing. Yoga is probably more accessible in every part of Ireland, its great also for relaxation.

Try and talk to others and not bottle up your stress. Others are probably going through the same thing. Other than that try and get enough sleep, exercise and eat well. Things are hard at your age, Im sure your friends are going through stress also. Maybe one of your friends could go to yoga also.Good luck with it. : )

On one hand yoga would be very good, on the other running is great. Running really is a fantastic stress buster and best if all it's free (just get a decent pair of shoes) and you can fit it around your schedule.

Avoiding or limiting junk fatty/sugary food and alcohol is also important.

I do pilates.. much the same as yoga and I find it sooo relaxing. I sleep much more soundly at night after it. I have a stressful job and it is a definite stress buster.

    +1 for running

Do yourself a favour OP and get a proper pair of running shoes, some shops will fit them for you

during a really stressful time in my life, i got paul mckenna 'eliminate stress' hypnosis downloaded onto my ipod. then lie down on my bed for 20 mins or so and listen away. i felt so much calmer afterwards.

+1 on the running - though with dark winter nights it can be hard to convince yourself to get out there in the gales to run, so yoga, if you are interested in it, is great too.

make sure you are getting enough sleep too.

I would also recommend running. Bring your iPod and put your favourite songs on a playlist. I am in my final year of college and when it is all getting a bit much I head for a run or go the gym.

    Thanks for the replies guys/gals.
I think that running works better for me than yoga.
Exercise is also good for the amount of fatty foods I eat, so this is a great help.
Anyways I try not to bottle up my stress. I usually talk to my friends or my parents. It gets worrying sometimes because my mam always has the impression I'm complaining when really I'm only worried. I even tone down my voice to make sure I'm polite about it. Hopefully this will improve and hopefully more people will get the right impression, because I think that's important when talking about my problems.

Stress management requires sourcing where it's coming from.
