I have a small business and am currently registered for standard vat but i am interested in registering for C2 vat as i believe that i am missing out on oppertunities as i am not C2 registered.

how do i go about doing this? i cant find much info on registering on revenue.ie.

OK well for starters it looks like you're a bit confused about what a C2 is; it has nothing to do with VAT, so if you've been looking on the VAT area of the Revenue website it's not really surprising that you can't find information about registering for a C2..!

The C2 system applies to subcontractors in the construction, meat processing, and forestry areas, who are subject to Relevant Contracts Tax. Here's a link to the relevant part of the Revenue website:
    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/rct/c2-card.html

Basically unless you are someone who regularly gets 35% of the payment deducted when being paid (and get a RCT Deduction Cert to claim the other 35% back from Revenue) then its unlikely a C2 will/would make any difference to you.

    hi
phone the revenue, as for c2 section, they will ask you which area (ie dublin city etc) ask them to send you out the form, fill it out and return

Ehhhhh..? Why would you go to the bother of registering an account in order to post up advice here when you appear to not have a breeze what you are on about?!
    1. Phone revenue where? There's no central switch the OP can ring, if he is going to ring them he needs to ring his local office.
    2. Ask for the C2 section? He'll need the RCT/Registration section.
    3. They will ask you which area? They won't, because as I've said, he should ring his local office - the one that deals with his income tax / VAT affairs.
    4. Ask them to send you out the form. Bingo!
    5. Fill it out and return it. Um, it's not that straightforward, as you should know if you've ever actually applied for a C2. He'll need passport photos, proof of accounts granting him credit with suppliers, confirmation of the existence of a Relevant Contract for which he is required to supply labour & materials.

    Sigh...

(Mods: Sorry if I'm being a jerk to Alexhill, but it's very frustrating to see someone post such misleading and unhelpful advice, particularly after I've already answered the OP's question )

Maybe the OP has heard of the Reverse charge basis for sub-contractors and thinks that its available to other businesses.

just letting you know my experience, i rang dublin city revenue, they asked me which area is was in, i told them, they put me through, i said i had a query about a c2 cert, they put me through to the relevent department and they sent me out th e forms, which i filled out (it was a pain in the arse, did require photos, and lots of details etc) i have always found the revenue very helpful just ask them nicely regards

    I agree with this 110%
Relevant Contracts tax is a pain in the ass to administer and unless you SPECIFICALLY need a C2 I don't see the point in it myself
