Good offer, also can go via Pigsback for points

I've checked if they're adding 10% to the prices for those accessing the site from an Irish IP address. Using a UK proxy, I compared the prices of several books on the sterling and euro sites, and they're the same, some are slightly cheaper, in euro. So this is a genuine offer from The Book Depository. :)

How long does the free shipping to here last? Or is it staying like that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,630 ✭✭✭Oracle

There's always free shipping with The Book Depository.

Hi, I just checked half a dozen books against Amazon.co.uk, assuming free Amazon delivery to Ireland (spending over £25) & 10% extra off from Book Depository.

From a rough calculation, two were definitely cheaper on Book Depository, one was about the same, the other three were cheaper on Amazon.

Ordered off them from Oz before. 100% free delivery, i had my book in less than 2 weeks! It was funny though, because i got two copies of the same book. Turned out i got charged twice too :(. Still, the book was only $7 :pac:

Thanks OP. Does anyone how quick delivery to Ireland is?

Thanks OP. Does anyone how quick delivery to Ireland is?

I have had books from them quicker than Amazon, they are an excellent site, especially if you only want one book and dont want to bump up to 25 quid to get free amazon shipping. Usually delivered in jiffy bags.

They also have thousands of ebooks for free to download, one of my favourite sites.

    Hi,

I got that error yesterday too. Then I was on Ebay and bought some stuff using Paypal and it worked fine. I then tried the Book Depository again and Paypal was still not working. Will try it again this evening.

Thanks for the alert. I ordered some books at the weekend, great prices. Today went to order another one I had been thinking about, but price had increased hugely. So I checked my order with current prices and they apper to have gone up all round. :(

    JFK in Ireland
    http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9780007317592/JFK-in-Ireland
    Now 20.49 (18.44 with 10% discount)
    Ordered at €12.83
    It's 18.99 in Easons

    My Story - Bernard Dunne
    http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9781844882571/My-Story
    Now €14.91 (13.42 with 10% discount)
    Ordered at €10.67

The extra book I was going to order was Jamie's 30-minute Meals. Think it was showing at around €28, now €35. Available on Amazon.co.uk at £13.00 (Sterling + possibly postage)

These are big differences and can hardley be explained by currency changes. I guess the point is that its important to compare and check prices.

Are you sure you haven't the currency set to dollars or something, all the prices you have posted are wrong and Jamie Oliver's book is out of stock:confused:

No, I'm comparing todays euro prices with those on my order confirmation dated yesterday, all in euros.
I see the Jamie Oliver book has now gone out of stock, maybe they pulled it to check price as Amazon so much cheaper.

    Ugh.

I've had that message last couple of times I used the site. No idea why but paid by credit card instead without any problems.

Same thing here - not a big deal, but strange it works for some and not others. Still, Yay for free shipping!

I use these guys all the time. The only little gripe I have is that all the books arrive in their own individual packaging. Its kind of annoying. I bought about 20 books for christmas and it was annoying having to open each one.

I still use them above amazon though!

20 presents to open sounds like great fun :D

I'm guessing they're not all for you though - which probably means lots of wrapping :)

Really is worth shopping around when it comes to books. 5 books this morning were working out at €34 on Amazon but only €20 from Book Depository.

I think their book prices increase based on demand. Well, that's what it appears to be. Just have to watch for the right price.

Have never gotten paypal to work with site, so just use my visa card. No big deal.

It's a great site. Managed to get a book for college for €20 cheaper than on campus. Definitely gonna use it again

Alan Sugar's AB is £8 on Amazon but €15.50 on this.
