Brock Lesnar’s next fight is likely to be a rubber match with Frank Mir, according to UFC president Dana White.

Lesnar lost the UFC heavyweight belt to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 and White has ruled out an immediate rematch, because there was no ambiguity about the loss.

“There won’t be an immediate rematch, there is no need for one,” White said today. “After the fight Brock took some time off to go hunting; he and I haven’t spoken since the fight so I’m not sure what he wants to do next.”

Asked if the rumours about Lesnar asking for Roy Nelson had any basis in fact, White shook his head.

“He never asked for Roy Nelson, that’s not true. The last thing I did hear was that he wants to fight Frank Mir again. That fight kind of makes sense so… We will probably see Lesnar fight Mir next, I think that the rubber match makes sense.”

White also said that Velasquez’s first title defence will “probably” be Junior Dos Santos. The Brazilian is undefeated in the UFC and been speaking of his desire to challenge for the title recently. White did not give a potential date for the fight.

Very strange Dana used the word probably
And that he has not spoken to Lesnar since the loss to Cain, yet he is saying he is fighting Mir again

he cant say for definite jds is getting the first shot due to the chance (albeit miniscule) that he may sign fedor. This is a big if, but if he gets fedor, he will be giving him an immediate shot.

Dana White being all coy about Mir Lesnar 3 "That fight kinda makes sense, so..." He knows that would bring a lot of viewers, even more if Mir wasn't apart of the worst fight of the year, but Dana also knows Brock will come in hungry and take his anger out on Mir, make him look good and get him back to title contendor quickly. He doesn't want Brock drifting round the top 5 with the amount of money UFC pays him.

I thought JDS was a sure thing for title shot?

Interesting whether or not Brock will be hungry, he has a history of leaving once things get tough

Not just getting tough, but he's been figured out as a 1 dimensional fighter, i'd say that Roy Nelson would beat him at the moment, he'd take some 1st round punishment then beat him in 2nd. The only thing keeping him at UFC, i think, will be a pretty watertight contract. Unless of course he leaves and stays in limbo like Randy

Brock dominated Herring for three rounds, and was only slowing down in the third against Randy. The issue with the Cain fight is that he was scared of him, so he rushed out, expended a huge amount of energy trying to finish the fight straight away.

Would he not have left after his first loss to Mir then no?

He'll be back - "thats what a champion does, right?"

I think Dana doesn't want Brock to fight Nelson because Big Country has quite a good chance of winning because as we've seen Lesnar doesn't like being hit (who does?) by big shots. Lesnar is on big money so if he were to lose two in a row his selling power decreases. The obvious match would be a Mir Lesnar rubber match to sell the PPV. This leaves Nelson's opponent open. Pity because a Nelson Carwin fight would have been dam good.

A bit unfair I think. Would you like to expand?

He left Pro-Wrestling because he hated the schedule and craved real competition again. He left his brief attempt at being an NFL player because he didn't cut it, simple as that.

This about a guy who in his grand total of seven fights has wins over Randy Couture, Frank Mir and Shane Carwin? Really?

no, you don't understand, the going didn't get tough against frank mir , he was beating on mir and got 'caught' in a submission.

Well then the "going got tough" against Carwin cos Lesnar got the head slapped off him for the first round. I'd also like an elaboraton on what Dunkamania said, dont really get it

Yes really, Randy Couture is past his best, although he's still a legend it wasn't the same Randy, and how much weight was he giving up to Brock? 60lbs at time of fight?

Frank Mir is just so inconsistent, i really thought he was on his way back to the top after the performance against Nog then he just goes to ****.

Herring another one past his best, who also has a crap ground game

And the 50cc scooter i had when i was 16 had a bigger tank than Carwin

The only REAL contender he has fought, in my eyes, has been Cain and he got fcukin destroyed, totally. I also think he'd lose to JDS and probably Big Roy.

Ridiculous. All those fighters were legitimate top level contenders (arguably with the exception of Herring) when he fought them. You can look at any fighters record and pick holes in it and try to dismiss them if you want. You're just trying to re-write history to suit your, I'll take a wild guess, severe dislike of him.

Randy hadn't fought for 15 months as he was in contract limbo, as for Mir IMO the Brock loss was the first of his downward spiral, he beat a very poor Kongo, lost to Carwin, who has no tank at all then put in a dire performance against the man who WAS CroCop.

I don't dislike Brock at all, i did at first, but he has actually grown on me and i was rooting for him to beat Carwin and Mir.

It's too soon for Lesnar v Mir III.
I'd be more interested in Lesnar v Carwin II.
When is Carwin expected to be ready to fight again after his surgery?

He had back surgery this week and his doctor said he can't train for three to four months, so he'll probably fight again in six months

Dana said yesterday that Nelson can't fight again until a contract situation with another promotion is sorted out. So Mir is the only real option left for Brock, apart from Nogueira, which is less likely I would think

So wait, Brock verbally tapped? Wow! Is there any confirmation anywhere else other than the bitter egoist that is Frank Mir?

Also, i'd love to see Mir get his head smashed by Shaub! What a ridiculous thing to be saying "I should fight Shaub so i can get a victory under my belt to have the Brock fight make more sense". That guy's cockiness really bothers me!
