    Hi everyone

i registered a yahoo id that ended in ****@yahoo.ie. I set up an account with a usa clothing firm to buy clothes but gave my address as ****@yahoo.com. i gave credit card details. tonight went in and when i couldn't log in asked them to send me new password which was sent to the 888@yahoo.com website. i am terrified someelse could have gotten passwoed and accessed account details. my yahoo id is fairly unique involves 3letterand kids birthdates. if i have larry@yahoo.ie can someone else have larry@yahoo.com
i am going out of my mind and debating whether to cancel the credit card

    Yup - cancel it.
Its possible to have @yahoo.ie and someone else to have @yahoo.com
Then cancel your yahoo and get gmail to avoid any confusion in future

Try to sign up for the ****@yahoo.com account and see if you can use it, if it works then resend the password and everything will be fine. If your id is as unique as you say it is then this should work.

Send yourself an email from an other account to the @yahoo.com account and see if you receive it on the @yahoo.ie account.

    Simples.

Just try and create a yahoo.com account using your username.

If you can't create it ('username is taken') then it means someone else has the account (and has gotten an email with login instructions for your account on the webshop). In that case, contact your credit card company asap.

If you can create the email account, then all is well.

    Thats completely illogical.

Don't cancel the card. Send me the number, expiry date and the 3 digits on the back and I'll make sure no one else is able to use it on you.

I'll do a step by step for you.

    1. Use a different account than the two mentioned in the OP
    2. Use that email account to email ****@yahoo.com
    3. If you receive the email sent to ****@yahoo.com on the ****@yahoo.ie email account there's no need to worry.
AFAIK there is no difference between xyz@yahoo.com and xyz@yahoo.ie; this is an easy way for the poster to check it.

    Very logical, very simple.

    Ok, no.

If you own a yahoo.com email account you do NOT own the yahoo.ie account of the same ID. Thats like saying if you own a Hotmail.com or .co.uk account you then own the live.ie or .com account of the same ID.

Completely illogical and universally understood by the majority of regular internet users.

You obviously can grasp the concept of a unique identification label known as a domain name.

    Thanks for your reply.

    No, for instance:

    xxx@gmail.com == xxx@googlemail.com

It all depends on how the service provider handles addresses.
Yahoo should map xxx@yahoo.ie to xxx@yahoo.com, the current
    mechanism a confusing legacy mess.

Sucks to be you coz you are wrong and your sarcasm now makes
    you look like a cock.

Um, you didn't have to cancel your card. It would only show the last 4 numbers anyway and wouldn't show your CVV2 number. But what's done is done.

    You are all wrong

    There can't be, a JoeBloggs@Yahoo.com and a JoeBloggs@Yahoo.ie

    It's an either or situation.

If you sign up as: JoeBloggs@Yahoo.com

Nobody will be able to sign up for: JoeBloggs@Yahoo.ie

    And visa versa.

That does not mean to say you got mail for one if sent to the other, you don't.

    It's not just .ie either.

It's ALL Yahoo extensions like .fr, .co.uk etc.

JoeBloggs@ .. will be taken for them all, when it's taken for one.
