When Damage Is a Good Thing

    Interesting article from Running Times:

Basically saying that some of the things we do to minimize damage and maximize recovery are not always the best strategy. Sometimes letting the body itself deal with the stresses of a hard workout or carb depletition during a long run could be better in the long run.

The book ' Brain Training for Runners ', by Mark Fitzgerald, also suggest doing some long runs without taking in energy drinks to simulate better training adaptions.

Carb depletion long runs and fast finish long runs have been around elite marathoners training schedule for quite a while now so this is nothing new...

Sorry forgot - it's only elites that post on boards........

Think you are missing the point of the article and why I posted it here:
A lot of posts and advice giving regarding to training are how to minimize intra and post workout damage, practice taking your carbs during your training runs, are ice baths any good, what are the best compression socks, tights, what should I eat directly after training.
This article just points out that sometimes (not always) you should let your body adapt by itself, as going through the repair process natuarally can be a positive.

Point taken - think the point really is that most people misuse gels; carb drinks and recovery drinks even where they dont actually need them...
