    Hi

i was wondering are we all programmed to fail.
i will give you an example, i have always struggled with my weight, but on 3 different occasions i lost a sh*t load of weight the proper way by eating healthy and doing the exercie thing, im talking about on average 6 stone each time. but yet everytime i do lose the weight i just end up putting all of it back on.

the thing is i know eating the 5 packs of crisps/or 3 bars in one sitting is the reason i put the weight back on, but why do i still do it i cannot figure it out,

im at that point were i need to get it off me again but i just dont have the get up and go to go threw all that hard work for a year to only wreck it all the following six months, its soul destroying.

so can someone please tell me why I and people like me do this all the time

If you have an unhealthy relationship with food then you need to find the reason why.
Loosing the weight when you have falledn of the healthy eating wagon is the same as someone with a drinking problem stopping drinking, but if you don't understand why and work on the root cause you can slip back time and again.

I suggest you get some professional help with it, www.bodywise.ie have services and support groups.

No, we're absolutely not all programmed to fail. The reason you're 'failing' as you put it, is due to lack of willpower. It is simply not your top priority to keep the weight off, because if it was then you'd be keeping it off.

You need to get rid of this attitude that you're 'failing' too. Look, we never really 'fail', we just make mistakes; get rid of that word from your vocabulary, it'll only dampen your confidence. The road doesnt go as smoothly as we predicted and we experience a couple of pot holes along the way is all. Life is about making mistakes, but its also about learning from these mistakes so that we only ever have to make them once. You seem to be revolving around in a circle and the older you get, as I'm sure you're aware, the more dangerous this will become.

I dont believe you've 'failed' at all - we humans are creatures of habit and this particular habit of yours is very deeply ingrained, however if you are truely determined, which I dont think you are, and you persist in your efforts you will reach your goal. However it must be your top priority and until it is you will only ever underachieve.

    Define fail!

The fact about humans, the one thing I think is fact anyway, is that we judge ourselves by the standards of those around us.

You talk about stuggling about your weight... I have to admit I can not relate to that but I have struggles of my own....

... and what I have realised is that the only person we struggle against is ourselves. We let ourselves be distracted by what others expect of us.... and that can lead to both good AND bad things....

.... but at the end of the day the only measure is you and your expectation on your own life. This is YOUR life we are speaking of now and only you can inform us about how it should go...

What do YOU want from your life and how do YOU think you have attained that?

Until we have the answers to those questions we can not help you, just give you opinions based on how WE want to live OUR lives.

failing is an opportunity to learn. when u fail, a mistake has been made.
work out what your mistake is and learn from it.

when u eat healthy u gravitate towards a normal weight. when u eat unhealthily u put on weight. u need to find a good balance in your life and not go from one extreme to the other. u need to change your lifestyle for the longterm and stop just reacting to your weight.

You only fail if you stop trying.

One thing you dont mention is how fast you loose the weight. Loosing 6 stone is great but if you do it over 6 months or less it is too fast(imho).
Ball park figure is anything more then 2lbs a week should be questioned. You can loose weight too fast.

Any sustained weight loss must be slow and long term. Fast weight loss ends can end up with a rebound effect.

If may offer one piece of advice was given to me.

You are not going on a diet. A diet makes you think it is a temporary state of affairs which will revert to normal as soon as you reach goal. Unfortunatly what you think of normal eating got you to where you are now.
Instead think of it that you are changing the way you eat permanently. If you eat like a 170lbs person you will over time reach that goal.

This is based on personal experience and is not meant to be taken as medical advice. I've been there, lost the weight, put it back on, lost it, put it back on and finally lost it and held it off.....
