Cameras are no substitute for traffic patrols. All they can ever detect is a breach of the posted limit which is an arbitrary limit. Speeds much lower can be reckless combined with poor driving conditions, careless manouvers or poor observation. Speeds much higher can be perfectly safe in goood conditions, maintaining safe distances and with attention to hazards and other road users.

so if the cameras were still there, there would have been exactly 327 road deaths to date?

whats the variation in deaths each year?

    statistical dead end imo

I agree it doesn't necessarly show deaths are down as you will have variance from year to year. But it does show that the cameras make very little difference.
