Sika calf left to rot

Out this morning on a bit of private ground near Anamoe I spotted magpies and grey crows inside a wood, went over to investigate and found a sika calf... Had been shot 2 nites ago by lampers.. Shot through the heart with a .308 and just made it out of the field and about 10 feet into the wood.. Turned my f***ing stomach to see such a waste.. Cannot understand why lads insist on lamping good ground when they have permission to stalk it properly... Having said that it aint good ground any more...

Funnily enough, it wouldn't be difficult to draw a solid connection there either.

This pisses me right off. I was just reading the thread on biltong and venison burgers. Had my mouth watering and to hear of a prime animal (or any animal for that matter) left to rot like that is simply a disgrace.

I know what you mean. The nicest areas in the country can be destroyed by gougers in short order.

You seem to have a good idea as to what happened... Are you a CSI man? Or Sherlock Holms? Or do you know these guys

I found a .308 case in another part of the ground.. These lads are the only others who have permission there. I dont know them personally but they apparently told the owner they have a licence to lamp deer...

This reminds me of a story my barber was telling me only last month - apparrently the binmen at his brother-law's house become suspicious about the contents of some of his bins going on the weight, smell and the amount of fly/maggot activity in the vicinity. Turns out the guy was mowing down large numbers of pheasants and simply dumping them in his wheelie bins:mad:. My barber(who loves enjoying the countryside and raises organic pigs etc.) lost it with him and apparently haven't spoken since.

I also remember reading a story last year(could have been here!!) about a large number of headless fallow deer carcasses that were wrapped in plastic and were dumped in a drain somewhere in the midlands.

These kind of stories are really depressing and highlight the fact that some so called hunters are appallingly ignorant and wastefull, not to mention the damage it does to the repution of the sport and efforts of the good guys:(

just because its a .308 doesnt mean they have a deer license some people only abtain a deer license once to get a high calibre rifle
then dont bother to reapply for it and lamp away and shoot away as normal dont understand it myself

lamping deer can only be done under section 42 licence and the landowner has to apply for that and can nominate someone to do the culling so they are telling the owner porkys

Would it be possible someone shot it and it ran not to be found? Did you hear gun shots or what makes you suggest it was lampers and not shot during the day? It doesnt make sense to me that somebody would deliberately leave sika calf left to rot. If in view of road maybe shot with something lower powered seen as 308 in heart of calf probably have dropped on the spot. If what you are suggesting is true i would be out patrolling the areas.

It is absolutely disgusting behavior to waste good meat like that. Calves are in such good order this year that the meat on that would have been like butter.

I've seen them little feckers run after a direct hit to heart might have happened in this case, somtimes tracking the calves can be difficult as they are small and easily hidden

If they are lamping they are doing it for the money section 42 or not. Game dealers dont pay for calves, unfortunately that's why they may have left it.

I know of guys that shoot 100+ deer a season and dont know what venison tastes like, as they are only in it for the money.

They are the lads that need to be stopped.
Where is the sport in that.
They are ruining our deer by shooting everything and anything. No consideration to future stock just shooting for blood money

Doesnt sound like lampers/poachers to me as most lampers would be taking head shots as they wouldnt have an accurate view for a heartshot.Sounds to me like one they lost after the shot.
    Thats just my view.
