Sorry for the rant but after 2 weeks now watching this its driving me to a rant!

The railway gates beside the house are been automated, cost I have been told is 1.8 million euro and 8 weeks of a project.

Well 2 weeks in now, days the man power ranges from 11 to 15 lads. So you can work out MAYBE these guys, a private company subcontracted to do the work, are on 150 a day?

Looking out the window there now, 15 lads, ONE is working, and thats the way its been since 8.30am. The most I have seen doing anything is 3, the rest of them just sit in the vans or hold up walls.

I know my rant is sad, but honest to God, we, as in the tax payer, are paying for this, yet from what I can see we are paying for 3/4 of the work force to stand up all day!!!!

    Sorry for Rant!;)

    "Talk to Joe" :)

If they're on the CIE pension it's costing ''the taxpayer'' even more. I could do that..........

If its a subcontracted company doing this then its not Iarnroid Eireanns fault. You should probably contact them and let them know whats going on as they're the ones getting screwed

Can't blame them, it's their tactic to keep the job going for as long as possible, more than likely just to keep working and not get laid off, or something.

Nice to see we're spending money we don't have on things we don't need.

It's not just Irish Rail, it's every single government job.

Yeah they're not exactly known for clamping down on overdue projects. Look at the mess they made of the roads.

Dublin council put a tender out for some road works to two different companies. One Irish and one Polish.

First up the Polish guy walks in and offers to do the job for €100k. The guy from the council thanks him and says he will consider the offer.

Then the Irish guy walks in, asks how much the Polish guy quoted and is told €100k. Ok then, he says, we will do it for €200k.

"I don't get it", the guy from the council says.

"Well", says the contractor, "Thats €50k for you, €50k for me and we'll get the ****ing Pole to do it.

That is true, no Polish or "jonny foreigner" down there, well not unless you want to call a Laois man a foreigner! :)
They drive from Portlaiose to Castlebar, EVERY single day.
No wonder they finish up at 3pm! :)

Take lots of photos and send them to papers and Irish Rail. It's possible something might be done about it, but it's incredibly unlikely.

Ya, I do feel like it. Maybe its my Irish "sure what can I do about it" mentality but this is 100% pull the peesh :)

I might sneak a few photos for sure, but they will soon cop who took them! :)

Waste at CIE I am shocked. Next you will be telling me that FAS, HSE, DDDA (Dublin Docklands Development Authority) and the banks mighn't have been spending their money wisely.

Stand out beside them and take the pictures. Then when they ask what you're doing, tell them that you're taking photos to send to their boss to show that they're doing f*ck all work.

Worst case scenario: They ignore you.
Medium case Scenario: They pull the finger out and finish the job.
Best case sceanrio: They kick the crap out of you, you sue, get a fortune and move to a sunnier country.

    You can't lose! :D

A bit optimistic I think, more like...

Best case scenario: They ignore you.
Medium case Scenario: They pull the finger out and finish the job after telling you to f%^k off with that camera.
Worst case scenario: They kick the crap out of you, you sue, nobody saw anything (remember 15 witnesses v's 1), you lose a fortune & home on legal & medical bills and end up stuck in a hostel.:D

But I'm assuming you don't know what they are supposed to be doing so aren't giving anything other than a lay man's opinion. Specialists and foremen come and go so that would account for the numbers on site fluctuating.
Some work is specialist and from the sounds of things they're waiting for something to happen so they can get going. It happens.

It does sound like it wasn't planned out properly if there's people standing around waiting but it's hard to say, if one important part got held up due to the weather that's the whole job held up until it arrives. That happens all the time and if you send the workers home there going to complain that it's not their fault the things held up so why are they being punished.

There could be any number of possible reasons that they do not appear to be working. Maybe they are monitoring something, maybe a delivery got delayed, a breakdown and they are waiting for it to be fixed. The possibilties are endless.

Good idea, but go the whole hog and video them for the day....a photo wouldn't tell the full story.

The thing about IE that annoys me is the fu**ers who play violin/accordian on the dart and then do a lap of the aisle asking for money.

    FU** OFF!!!!

Go away out of that, its a bunch of lads taking the piss at the taxpayers expense. Its like council road menders, 1 fella filling in a hole with 6 others standing around "supervising" him.
