    Hi,

I have bought a new 2nd hand car. The tax is out and it will probably be a week or two before the new vlc comes out. Question is, can I drive it in the mean time?

    Regards,

    George.

    Technically/Legally = No.
if you meet a guard and explain the situation to him/her they should let you off.

but you can still get fined for non display of tax if its parked somewhere and a warden/guard spots it.

Hi swampy, if you do start driving the car now, when you go to tax it, you will have to back tax it to the beginning of this month, as you cant tax it for part of a month. Depending on the engine size, say for example it was a 3.2 Jag or similar, then that extra months tax will be about €135.00. If you wait till you get your paperwork in about 2 weeks time, then tax it from December 1st, you're not paying 4 weeks worth of tax for 2 weeks worth of driving.

Best of luck with it anyway.
