IF YOU ARE INTO OLD RIDES:

There is a free, monthly, online newsletter (without advertising) that is a pretty good read. It addresses all aspects of the hobby from the perspective of one (me) who happens to own a couple of rides (in fact 3): a ‘55 Cadillac Coupé de Ville (viewable online at The Gray Lady web site http://GrayLady.WebNG.com), a 1962 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 convertible (view it online at SAVED 62 http://www.freewebs.com/jeandaveyaros) and a 1992 Cadillac Allanté.

The newsletter is named Car Collector Chronicles®. CCC® is in its 3rd year of publication and is found only online at http://www.scribd.com/people/view/7936333-dave

The newsletter now has a "brand spanking new" companion forum to comment on the pub and gather with other car collector fans to share and learn about our mutual obsession. You will find Car Collector Chronicles® – THE FORUM online line at http://ccc.activeboard.com

Check out the offerings from CCC®. Do feel free to provide me your feedback. If you like what you read/see in the newsletter or the forum, please help spread the word!

    US based - mmmm.

There can be a pretty big difference between US collectors and Irish. There is too much bling in US classic cars - many altered to such a degree they have no originality.

In general as I have found on the Porsche forum motoring in Ireland and in Europe generally is a lot more difficult and expensive.

"There is too much bling in US classic cars -"

An interesting comment and perspective. I guess we do like our style, and chrome. At the same time, all U.S. manufacturers had tone-downed versions of their models. Problem there is, not many of them survived, as they were driven until they dropped, then scrapped.

I can tell you that none of my rides (1955 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, 1962 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 -a full sized Olds without the bling- and a 1992 Cadillac Allante) have not been altered. Precisely what makes them collectors are their originality, in my opinion.

I reckon when it comes to bling, the US laws replaced too much of it with rubber bumpers and like - at least during the 70's.

Well, the 70's was not the best decade for automobile design in the U.S., or for power under the hood; all, mainly, due to legislation. Since raw power was curbed, excesses were provided in design in some cars. In others, they were made to look like what they were, "econo-boxes."

The Ford Pinto was a fine example of how to get it wrong.

Ouch! I had a 1976 Ford Pinto. After racking up a mere 185,000 miles on it, I sold it.

    I also owned a 1973 AMC Gremlin?

It is all a matter of taste though, isn't it?
