i got put off the road for drink driving two years ago, which i realise was big mistake and dont agree with it in anyway and got everything i deserve for it.
im due to be back on the road soon and was wondering if anyone knows roughly how much my insurance is going to be on a 1litre. im 21 and dont have a full licence.

also was wondering if both my parents already have their own cars is there anyway i can get insured under them but in my own car?

and finally if i brought a van would i be able to get commercial insurance and would it be much cheaper?

thanks in advance for an help

Might help to change the title to mention something about insurance, might get you a better response to your question.

Nobody here can give you an answer to your question about insurance, all you can do is ring insurance companies and find out. As for getting a van and getting commercial insurance, it's quite difficult for a private individual to insure vans as commercials, you may be required to produce a VAT number

Youre going to have a lot going against you in your quest for insurance Im afraid. I think your best bet might be to get your full license first and take that hurdle out of the equation.

Presumably youre going to have an endorsment on your license which is going to make it difficult for you. As Onkle has said the best advise is to ring every company and broker you can and see what they come back with. Might be worth checking out companies like ARB and XS Direct who are specifically geared for dealing with high risk categories and those coming back from bans.

you don't have to be registered for vat to get commercial insurance. You only have to be registered for vat if your turnover exceeds 55k(services) so not having a vat number doesn't necessarily mean that you aren't going to use the vehicle for a commercial purpose

Since the OP isn't going to use the van for a commercial purpose, it is probably not a good idea for someone with his record to pretend that he is.

He's going to have to declare the endorsement, so any insurer will be looking for reasons not to quote.

Can you sit your test without insurance? Maybe sitting test in Driving School car is a possibility, 'am not sure. Could be a lot of pain dealing with the insurance companies, so a full license might help a bit.

You say your parents have their own cars so I assume that means two cars, it would be difficult for either of them to get insurance for you as a named driver on a third car as the insurance company would see the third car as being exclusively for your use whether you owned it or not so they'd probably refuse to take it on board in the name of one of your parents with you as a named driver, they're not that stupid.
