    hi
first off anyone know what the reception for saorview is like in Bantry Town West Cork, have only seen reports from Dunmanway, which are sketchy.

Second question is the below box suitable, its MPEG 4, i know a definite answer probably cant be given, but does anything scream no that wont work when you view the specs

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=110604849544&Category=96970&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2#ht_1904wt_1140

Im looking for a cheap basic box, no recording function, just need to receive the channels. Have an old sky box which i use for the freesat channels. I receive rte1,rt2,tv3,tg4 with a combination of a vhf aerial and a uhf aerial & signal booster. I think the VHF aerial does rte1,rte2 and the uhf aerial is for tv3 & tg4.
    rte1& tg4 reception is perfect, rte2 & tv3 are very shadowy.
Im hoping i could use the digital saorview to receive rte1,rte2,tv3,&tg4 via the uhf aerial so i get a clear picture on the irish channels. tv is not hd old type set with scart connection

    thanks

You've got your 2 links mixed into 1, can you repost.

The Sigmatek was discussed here previously - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055807314

VHF & UHF aerial indicates you are using the Mullaghanish transmitter which is transmitting the Saorview trial service. Even with a less than perfect analogue picture you should have no problem with DTT reception.

Looking at the quoted specs , it says it will only do H.264 Level3 so it will not work with HD material which is H.264 Level4. The audio format support is limited too.

It's pretty much like a picnic box fine for SD material but will be useless for HD and useless if the audio format changed which could happen.

    Don't bother with it. Really.

Also no MHEG5 so wait until official Saorview boxes come out.
