I was let go from work over the summer and went back to college. I didn't apply for a grant as I left it too late, I don't work and I still live at home.

I'm wondering is there any chance I would be eligible for anything from the dole or whatever as college is costing me quite a lot a week and sooner or later my saving are gonna run out and I'm not gonna even have enough for bus fare! My folks don't give me a cent but yet I'm still expected to contribute financially to the house.

Go to the local Health Board and ask for a special one-off hardship payment. You'll get nout from the dole office.

Won't get anything from the CWO either. Best option is to apply for BTE allowance. Are you over 23?

Doubtful you would qualify for BTEA.
Will move your thread to Student Finances - you might get more help there.

you can still apply for a student maintenance grant - a lot of county councils are still taking applications see www.studentfinance.ie also ask in your college about the student assistance fund and also have a chat with the students union welfare officer

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Yeah as mentioned already, check out whether or not you can apply to the student assistance fund. Go to your college student union and ask about it. See if you can talk to a welfare officer. I'm not sure how all colleges work but trinity has one. This would probably be enough for bus fare but not enough to contribute to your household, it'd be round the 100euro mark.
