Ipod Touch wont turn or connect to pc?

So my friend gave me his Ipod touch because it doesn't work and said I could keep it if I get it working. He told me he doesn't know what happened to it. He didn't drop it in water or crush it etc. It looks perfect on the outside. It just stopped working one day, wont charge, wont reset, wont go into recovery mode or anything, the pc doesn't even recognize it when connected up. Ive gone through all the apple support pages. all the youtube videos and other various forums to figure out what the problem is. None of them helped at all.
Do you think you guys could help me out here? Or even quote how much it costs to head into the electrical store and have them sort it out.
    Any help would be appreciated.

You've probably tried it already but worth mentioning anyway, try put it in DFU mode and connect to PC with iTunes running?

Yup. Tried that. Nothing. The I-pod doesn't respond to anything. :(
