    Hi everyone, I'm fairly okay at reading specs but I wanted to get some expert opinions on what sort of laptop I should go for. I'm getting a laptop this Christmas as I'm heading off to college in September of next year (This will be the main purpose of the laptop). Also I'd really like to find a laptop that can run Civilization V well :) My specifications are as follows;

    Budget: Under 1000
    Intended use: College but also to play some games (Esp. Civilization V)
    Mobility: A light laptop to a medium weight laptop
    Warranty: Not extremely bothered about this I'm sufficient enough at fixing these things myself :)
    Operating system: Probably leaning more towards windows but I'm open to getting a Mac

    Here are the specs for Civ V;
    Processor: 1.8 GHz Quad Core CPU
    Memory: 4 GB RAM
    Hard Disk Space: 8 GB Free
    DVD-ROM Drive: Required for disc-based installation
    Video: 512 MB ATI 4800 series or better, 512 MB nVidia 9800 series or better
    Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card
    DirectX®: DirectX® version 11

    My advixe of specs would be: a solid i5 cpu, 3-4gb ram, 13-14inch, under 2.5kg, with 5650 or 335M GPU, 5hr + Battery.

    Hard to look beyond the Acer 3820TG or 4820TG with i5-430 + and HD 5650. Hard to find with this GPU over here. Plenty of options if you import from germany but requires a keyboard mod with 3810 keyboard. Poosible to find in US as well but obvious fees with importing applicable.
    Alternatively you can import from Taiwan with bilingual keyboard...riskier with warranty and possible VAT but i got my 3820TG for under 800euro.

    Uk seller:

    14inch is probably better for gaming.
    Alternatively HP envy 14 is a pretty awesome machine.
    Other options if you can find them Lenovo Y460, Asus N series.

    If you are limiting yourself to RTS games and arent too bother to play at max settings its possible lower end gpus may suffice, even to the extent of 310M. But id personally advise against it if you plan on gaming with any new releases. Id doubt the performance of Civ 5 on those machines as well.

    If you want to larger and heavier to 15inch you will have a plethora of options available for about €800 with the 5650.
