Any advice on an '02 runaround

My OH is on the lookout for a cheap runaround for a few months that won't self-destruct and will hold some value when it comes to selling it in a few months. I've spotted a few that seem good value, but I've no idea what they're like for reliability, so I was wondering if anyone had some advice.

The contenders seem to be '00-'02 in the following:
    Renault Laguna 1.5
    Seat Leon 1.4
    Skoda Fabia 1.4
    Nissan Almera 1.5

Any experience would be much appreciated!

Is there any reason you're not looking at smaller cars like:
    Fiesta 1.25 Ghia
    Renault Clio 1.2
    etc ?

If there's a reason you're looking at cars a class up, a Ford Focus would be a worth a look,

She's 5'8 and doesn't want anything too small. A Focus might be worth a look.

I'm 6' and drive a 97 starlet no problem. Love it. They are the dogs for reliability. Same for the yaris I assume.

I know what you mean - one of my mates is 6'4 and when he started driving he fit into a Peugeot 306.

I'm 6'2 and drive and Alfa GT which isnt the biggest car in world by any means.

Anyway if she's only gonna drive it for a few months you might want to look at renting?

That way you dont have to attempt to sell again which you may not be able to do again as easily as you think.

Depreciation vs Spending on the rental.

I'm sure you could haggle on the price of renting as well if you told them the length of the rental etc..

    Just a thought.

Buyin a car and selling it a few months down the road isnt as easy to do now as it once may have been especially keeping its value.

Seriously, they're great little yokes. You can throw them anywhere and as long you do the necessary they just keep on going.

i'd agree with starlets once they havent been lowered, got big rims, spoilers, rediculous exhausts or basically any sort of little boy/girl racer item attached

my mam has owned one since '99 when she got it pretty much new has put serious milage on it and its still going like clockwork. Great wee car.

Pity about the muppets who decided to knacker them up.

Sort of similar to the Celica's from years ago with the flip up lights. Man I'd love one of those if it was stock but so many of them have been absolutely ruined by shall we say 'pimp my ride' enthusiasts.
