Buying a food processor

I'm thinking of buying a food processor but my knowledge of them is practically nil . I have a very cheap one but if I run it for more than 30 seconds it sounds like a cement mixer and starts to smell of burning. I'm pretty sure its days are numbered! :D I don't need a new one to do anything too fancy, mainly a bit of blending (making curry pastes and soup), some slicing to make preparing veg for stir-fries and salads a bit easier and costing less than €100. Can anyone recommend anything?
