Well you've had the game since last Tuesday, I think it's now time we talk about the next COD game.

The next Call Of Duty game will be set in the future, according to a report.

Industry insiders have told Gamasutra that the Sledgehammer Games developed project will feature space marines and will be a "very big step" for the franchise.

Activision's publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg also confirmed that next year's iteration will continue to be a first-person shooter.

Earlier this year the firm registered Advanced Warfare, Space Warfare, Secret Warfare and Future Warfare domain names.

Space men shooting each other, has potential as Black Op's just didn't bring anything that fresh to the series.

Cant imagine how they could copyright that name given the Advanced Warfighter series, I'm sure Ubisoft will having something to say about it being so similar. Nintendo werent too happy when I wanted to make a game called Super Nario Bros :pac:

Surely the next one will continue (or finally finish) the story in MW2?

Yeah it'd be a pity if that story never ended and we dont find out what happens Price and the rest. Although with IW being a shambles and loads of copyright issues it may never get made. I'd like one more MW-era set COD game, that'd interest me a lot more than a space based one.

TBH I am more intrested to see what IW are doing next. After playing BO you can apprechaite what a good company they are, they make great basics but really have that quality sheen to the end result. Their rumoured to be making a sci combat game, a halo / gears killer. With their pedigree they can pick their publisher this time round / maybe even self publish given they may not need a huge marketing budget seeing as a LOT of the industry will be very intrested in what they make already.

Personally I hate shooters that use old school guns, whats the point. If I want history I read a book I want current / new stuff.

Attack dogs Vs ac130.... no contest which is cooler.

It'd be great if activision and IW can settle to copyrights to the IP though, would be great to see the MW faces back and maybe mix in some of the BO folks too for a smash up.

    Attack dogs flying an ac-130.

Or an ac-130 that fires attack dogs.

I wish IW could make better maps. In my opinion Treyarch trump them there.

If it was a game set maybe 10-15 years in the future that would be okay, if it's Halo type stuff then I won't be buying it.

Agreed, while Halo can be fun, i personally just don't like the uber-futuristic shooter games.

The maps on cod4 and mw2 easily outshone the maps on waw , in fairness to treyarch they didnt do a bad job this time , with the exception of a few dodgy dark maps and nuketown.

in fairness tho, nuketown >>>>>>>> rust and shipment, they had to add one small map.

I think they need to change things up a bit for the next game, so it could be a good move if they do it properly. Another MW clone would be a bad move imo.

Infinity Ward is owned by Activision, so they'll be working on whatever Activision tell them to work on, currently said to be some new version of CoD (separate to the one that Sledgehammer are working on).
Respawn (the company which is made up of most of the Infinity Ward staff who left) are signed to EA, so they won't be self-publishing either.

Ah you cant really call the IW anymore though? For the handfull of staff left in fairness? I should have been more clear though West and Zampella from IW have the case open with Activision ref unfair dismissal, withholding of payment due and copyright over the MW IP so tis a bit up in the air if "IW" own the IP or West and Zampella do.

Clearly Activision want to keep "IW" open under its name so if the court case finds "IW" owners of the IP that it essentially gives Activision license to have "IW" make more MW games based on the IP.

Didnt realise respawn had signed to EA though? Intresting! EA have deep pockets for respawn and if there is any publisher to take on Activision EA could.... MOH not withstanding of coarse :o!
    Cheers for the info.

@Krudler: lmao! Someone badly needs to make your idea happen!

One big circle , didnt members of e.a break away from e.a and form IW and now they're going back.

Yup, though the new deal with EA seems to be quite loose, i.e. they keep all IP rather than EA.

I'd like them to do another Vietnam era game, and MW3 and maybe just a continuation on Black Ops. That said, Future Warfare could work once they don't bring us to far into the future.

Im wary of the "future fighter" idea to be honest. Laser guns dont really do it for me. If they dont go too crazy and turn it into a complete sci-fi extravaganza, and stick to say weapons that are concepts or to be released in the near future, that would probably be alright.

If i wanted to play a shooter in space with futuristic weapons n stuff, id play Halo, blargh

blargh hog blargh blargh ??? :D

gotta agree with the general sentiment though i mean you play cod for cod and halo for halo keep the franchises seperate. it does seem to follow a bit of a trend with cod though i mean they started off with the likes of ww1+2 games moved onto more modern stuff so i guess it makes sense to progress to more futuristic stuff rather than doing the same old stuff again and again. i guess it depends on how futuristic they go for

BF2142 was fun. Variety is a good thing. Anyway, if you don't like Future Warfare then there's always Black Ops and the one that comes out after. There's a new COD every year.

i may be wrong but i think future warfare will be the next in the cod series ? i.e. if you dont like it you'l be playing black ops a year past its due date or you'l be waiting it out for the next in the series after future warfare

Yeah, that's my point. Most games last more then a year, and if you don't like the next COD, chances are allot of people won't so allot of people will keep playing Black Ops.

wow it looks like activision are milking the COD franchise just like they did with guitar hero
