Is it possible to find out who a mobile phone number belongs to without contacting the person directly? Is there any service that provides the name of the person that a certain mobile number is registered to?

Ring their landline and ask to speak to their mother and ask the mother who her kids are.

    Yes. Use this website.

Call their voicemail and see if they have a message

So first three digits 08(whatever) then 5 then the rest of the number

    This.

Or Google it-if it's a business person you might find something.

Its not one person in particular. My phone was stolen last week so I've lost most of my numbers, both business and personal.

Can your phone company not provide you with a list of your call log?

Give your phone to a friend and ask them to ring it back.

Your two posts don't really make sense, OP.

Are you looking for a name to go with a number you have, or have you lost your phone and need to retrieve your numbers?

So you don't have the phone numbers then? You're trying to get your numbers back, or you're trying to figure out who's ringing you?

My phone was stolen. I was able to retrieve some numbers that I had saved online. However most were not saved. I was able to access my records online therefore I now have hundreds of numbers but I dont know who they are since I dont have the names. It would be a bit extreme to ring every one of these to see who they are and anyways I reckon only about 50% of the numbers I'll actually need in the future.

Next time, invest in a telecommunication backup retrieval system. It's a good out-of-box solution I can't recommend enough although the support leaves a little to be desired.

In reality you only need 10 or 12 numbers of close friends and family, every other number you need one of those will have, business numbers can be gotten online in a couple of seconds, when you get mystery texts etc reply with "who is this" it's not rocket science.
If on the other hand you seen a text on your girlfriends phone, or some number she rang at 5am and want a name to attach, that's different:rolleyes:
    It's also called snooping!

Your best bet is if you know someone working in the relevant mobile provider company. Get them to do a search on the system.

As said you don't need all the numbers.
Just the key few, family, work, girl/boyfriend and friends

And you probably know the numbers anyway in your head

You'll gradually build back your address book

There are systems that allow you to backup your address book, I don't know a lot about them but check it out to avoid a repeat

I wasnt too concerned about getting my personal numbers, as others have said it should be fairly easy to get them again. It was client numbers that I really wanted to be able to identify. But I can always just send an email to them all asking for their numbers so its not a major issue!
