I'd be more in favour of using people power to keep it off. Every aspect of it is complete tripe and it's run by morons.

I'd rather the Irish Film Channel got funding (it's not Gaelic Films, or even just Films made in or connected to Ireland, though there are some gems.)

It is. Some shopping channels have higher production values.

Their schedule is pretty much made up of shows Sky 1 and other broadcasters aired 5 years ago. The rest is repeats of popular shows from TV3. No public service material at all. It's a low cost operation and they bring nothing new or original to the table.

They have not been broadcasting widescreen switching flags since around the time they were purchsed by TV3. This means every digital viewer (UPC/Sky) has to put up with squashed images on screen for most of their programming.

They don't respond to viewer queries or complaints. Ever.

I would not be suprised to learn that they used underhanded tactics to get Sky to give them the 105 position on the EPG. They probably threatened legal action claiming they were entitled to the position because they think they are a "public service" broadcaster.

I'm not into football at all, but I'm pretty sure I've seen the matches that 3e show also on Five.

If anything it would be good for the Family Guy repeats, but that's about it I'd say.

Look guys, like the channel or not (and I actually do) I'd much prefer to get ALL available Irish channels for free on DTT!

When the ALL the muxes are full and there are channels fighting for space then we can have arguments over which channels are good and which are bad.

In fairness 3e isn't a bad channel. They have often got the European rights to House, Glee, The US Office, Conan and many others before any UK channel.

Europa League football as well, just don't watch the punditry.

Can't see it going onto DTT, it was originally for satellite/cable only.

It's been on DTT for months.

Yes, but that is for only test transmissions at the mo. Mightn't be there when DTT fully live

RTE1, RTE2, TV3, TG4 and RTE News Now are also on test. Maybe they won't bother carrying those either when it's fully live.

Transmission charges? Who will pay for 3E to go on DTT when someone other than RTE NL have to pay for it?

TV3 might not be on it either if they have to pay more than a small amount.

Hunh? I think the earlier comment about 3e possibly not being on the final service was due to talk by TV3 not wanting to pay carriage fees to be on Saorview and then having to pay for 3e as well would be adding insult to injury.
So, if they don't pay, they won't be on the service.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,969 ✭✭✭✭The Cush

This is what TV3's CEO, David McRedmond said according to an Irish Times article last month
As it is, TV3 has yet to confirm whether its sister channel, 3e, will be broadcast on Saorview. “We have to pay [Saorview] for transmitting 3e, so there’s a question mark over the viability of putting up channels,” McRedmond says.

also on the same day RTÉ's Rory Coveney (Saorview communications manager) said on a Morning Ireland interview that carriage deals have to be arranged within the next few weeks.

TV3 seems to have a history of dragging its heels on these issues. Bottom line is, if they want to survive, they need exposure to viewers. Why protract the issue of going onto Saorview, if the analogue service is to be switched off? If they don't get real and get onto Saorview, their potential viewership will be decimated.

This is obviously a case of trying to appear to be right in the face of undeniable evidence to the contrary. 3e has been on DTT since November 2010.

You were reading outdated information due to the poster immediately above you having bumped a five month old thread. You obviously aren't well informed about Irish DTT, and are wrong. Whether or not something happens to 3e in the future, won't make you retrospectively right.
