Just saw this being posted in AH. 2 things popped into my head, one the cylinder serial number would trace the owner? and why do the gardaí not have email addresses?

It would appear that a majority of the force is not contactable by email. seems a bit 1990's

So as I'm out of country ATM and don't feel like making an international call, would someone like to pick this up and run with it for me?

have set up a garda gmail address for myself as my garda.ie email is not configured to send/receive external mail

probably best if someone in dublin takes this up for you, are you saying you know where it should belong or what?

No, but what I am sugesting is that BOC keep a record of who has what cylinder, there is a barcode on it. A quick call to them may lead to the owner.

I'm not sure it would be obvious for a Garda to try that avenue.

First, serial numbers. You are assuming that people know their serial numbers when reporting items stolen/missing. I can count on one hand the amount of times i've gotten serial numbers off people.

Gardaí can apply to get external email.

I think the Flickr thing is great- fair play to them. A good way to engage with people.

Serial numbers are often removed from stolen goods by thieves.

Absolutely excellent idea, fair play to who ever though of it. Should be rolled out to more stations. It would only take a day or less to photograph everything in the lost/found and upload it. Once that's done once something comes in photograph it and upload it so there wouldn't be a giant backlog.

Some nice bikes on there the Trek ones.
