winXP vm in win 7 vpn question

    i have win 7 professional but mostly i'm connected to a work vpn that has limited internet connectivitey. i thought that if i ran the win xp vm that i would be able to use it for better internet connectivitey as it wouldnt use the vpn atuomatically but it seems it does! normally i thought people had the problem the other way around :rolleyes:
    any ideas how to set it so that win xp doesnt use the vpn automatically?
    vpn is a cisco vpn.

    First check with your IT people that it's ok to try that

    if the vpn software hijacks the network card ( many come as a security package that would include a firewall ) then the VM client might be blocked

    looks like that might be the case, there is another LAN connection under network conncections to do with the vpn software.
    Strangely someone else with the exact same setup said they had to install the vpn client software on the xp vm because they couldnt access the vpn otherwise

    That's because even though they had two years to sort out drivers with the beta versions of windows 7 a lot of software vendors didn't.

    The client OS can't control the network card of the host.

    could you install the vpn client on the xp vm and then use that to vpn to office and keep the internet connection on the host as normal, or do you need to use windows 7 for the office vpn?
