Setting Up DiSEqC Motor

Have a Moteck 2100A motor and a Ross HD Satellite receiver model HDR-6110USB [€70 from B&Q]
I got the receiver for a second location in the house for occasional use.
When I got it up and running I saw that it was ok for DiSEqC and USALS use also. While I have a motorised setup already - 36v positioner etc, thought it would be something to play with if I got a DiSEqC motor. Problem is I cannot get the two to work correctly as the receiver manual is very scant on detail.
I've got both working individually in that I can move the dish [have three satellites logged 28/19/13 degrees] but I just cannot set the receiver up to remember the satellite positions or add other satellites etc.
The old system [36V HH mount] I have was much easier to set up, but then the the Ross receiver is a very cheap model, but adequate for a second location.

    See http://www.techtir.ie/articles/howto
All written by regular posters/experts here.

Set the Ross box to USALS
Make sure you enter your own location

It could be the Sw is no good. It's bottom end of market.

    Thanks Watty,

If the lot was working correctly, should a DiSEqC setup operate the same as a 36v mount i.e. choose a channel and the motor moves to that position and channel.
When entering my coordinates for USALS lat is ok, but do I enter lon as 6.4 [degrees west] or do I use a minus degree figure.
I have attached link to the manual. The instructions on page 19 lists menu items but does not apply them to actually setting the thing up eg. Reference Position and (Reset) Recalculate are not explained. Anyway I will keep tryin to set it up, suppose by trial and error I will get there.

I looked at the manual. There would seem to be a "toggle" setting on the USALS menu, so if your location is (say) 8.5 degrees West, you would put in 8.5 in the numeric field, then toggle the East/West setting to West, using the left/right arrows on the remote presumably.

If you're not using USALS (you should, though!), then you need to need to either find each satellite manually and store a numbered position for it or go to one of your found positions (at 13/19 or 28) and enter the number which is indicated for that satellite in your motor's manual. Usually the Hotbird satellite at 13 degrees is numbered 1 in the Moteck as far as I recall. The motor comes pre-set with about 20 or so sat positions. You have to set it up firstly so that the zero reference position on the motor is pointing due south. Then you tell it to go to position 1 (as I say this is usually 13 east). The dish turns and should be pointing at the sat if you set up the due south position correctly in the initial zero reference. If it's not exactly on the sat, then you manually turn the whole motor and dish on the mounting pole until you get it on the satellite. Once you are on the sat, then you can hit recalculate and the other standard sat positions should be ok in the motor.

But it's a whole lot easier if you use the USALS method:)

:(Thanks again, but with no clear instructions just cannot get it right. The dish alignment is correct - pole, motor and dish angles and the motor does move to different positions when I am attempting to set things up.
    A few further questions;
On the Moteck motor what does the reset button actually do and when is it used.
On the receiver what does (Reset)Recalculate do and what are reference positions do these have to match the list of satellite reference numbers in the motor manual and can they be changed for a satellite position. I have given up at this stage and parked the motor at 28 east! Thank God for the old 36V mount (which I set up in no time some years ago)
