Asus G range is widely regarded as the best bang to buck ration gaming machines out there. Not the easiest to find for Irish market howver.
MSI also offer some excellent models, as well as clevo/sager. Kolbolt computers is a good indication of UK prices.
For the less serious gamer, Acer have some strong models at good prices such as the ethos range.

Personally consider the Alienware renge the only decent Dell range atm. Premium price (particularly over here) but excellent performance.
Id advise going over to the alienware forums or asus gaming lounge at forum.notebookreview.com where undoubtably you will get the best advice

Id consider waiting until early next year when the refresh of models is coming out with the new Radeon 6000 series. Id expect that you may be able to pick up older models alot cheaper.

i dont see it as a waste of money at all.

i bought an xps m1710 fully beefed up laptop 3 1/2 years ago.

it has never given me any problem i cannot fix to this date.

and it still out-performs most laptops to this date.

Alienware is for those who cant build their own gaming system and so dont mind mind paying extra for a pre-built package.

So they do the job fine but you can build your own system for a much cheaper.

On the other hand they look awesome. :D

its a gaming laptop, not a desktop.

I can build a desktop if i wanted. somepople like the convenience a laptop has, albeit cumbersome if its a gaming laptop.

    but none the less....

also a gaming laptop has huge differences, cost wise and engineering wise than a run of the mill machine, so the costs are usually justified.

but I think alienwares are way over priced, I would get a clevo before them.

I dont need a glow in the dark alien looking at me to get me turned on...

    They sell desktops too.

And yes its the name that adds to the price more than anything really. Still they are good laptops/PCs even if a little overpriced......what isn't these days?

Is there anywhere in Dublin that sells Alienware's? I'd like to see one in person as opposed to just watching YouTube vids.

Alienware is owned by Dell and Dell only sells online.

Theres nothing there that suggests Dell or their subsidiary Alienware are one and the same company. Dixon's stores such as PC World stock Dell but they are not part of a merger and neither owns the other.

It seems there's been a good old-fashioned misunderstanding then :). When Lethal Bullet said 'they're the same company', I'm pretty sure he was talking about Curry's and PC World (someone provided a link to the curry's website, then someone else said 'PC world too'). That's how I read it, so I agreed with him. I wasn't suggesting anything about DELL and Alienware or either of them being merged with PC World/Dixons.

    Aha...everything starts to make sense!
