    Hi All,

I want to upgrade the pickups and wiring in a Squier Affinity Strat (big 70's headstock which i love) to something a bit more usable.

Any sugestions on brands you've tried would be much appreciated.
It sounds very flat compared to my Fender but i like using it as my workhorse.

    Its standard SSS configuration

I have an old eighties squire strat I put duncan vintage in it they liven it up and gave it a bit more bite I also have one in the middle of a 73 strat it works quite well a bit brighter than the originals but has a tone

I did exactly this, and now prefer my Squire to my Americans. I put some Lace Sensor Hot Golds (with the hotter bridge) in it, a little switch so that I had more pickup selections (I can now select all three or just the neck and bridge) and changed all the wiring inside it to the Fender standard as opposed to the Squire standard.

Google the pickups, I hadn't heard them before but they sounded right up my alley from the description and they in no way disappointed!

Well what kind of stuff are you playing?
I've got two starts with after market pick ups.
Custom Shop Fat '50s in one, for blues and general clean tones and two Seymour Duncan Hot Rails + one Demarzio Chopper in my other one for playing metal and other genres with a harshly over driven sound.

I love both sets of PUPs but they are so different that I couldn't recommend either to you until I know what you're playing?

Check out Kinmans. I use their Woodstock plus in my Mex and they're the absolute business.

Especially with the K9 switching. Cost nearly as much as the guitar but well worth it!

Mainly Bluesy stuff, with a bit of blues and some blues.:) and with some rock thrown in for variation.

Thinking of a similar thing for a strat, I currently have a MIJ '54 reissue which has lovely chimey pickups but am looking for more bottom, the Fender custom shop 69's look nice and well priced at 120€ for a set on ebay.

If you're upgrading the pickups you may as well upgrade the pots and capacitor too - they are always underestimated when it comes to the sound of a guitar. it'll be an extra 20 quid well spent.

+1, purely cos they got a set of single coils called the irish tour set. although i've played one or two of their humbuckers and they are v nice.

    not the only ones though!

I've got the emerald humbuckers in my SG ;)

the trilogy set in my Strat sound incredible, surprising nasty and aggressive for a strat, which you ca nease off with the volume pot

How about DiMarzio HS-3 and/or HS-2? I just love the sound of those!
