Invoicing when I'm not a business

I did a relatively small job commissioned by a company and they ask me to invoice them (there was an option I would work for them full time but in the end I work somewhere else so the job I did has to be billed separately). I am not self-employed, just an ordinary PAYE employee elsewhere. I don't think I'll have similar nixers in the future either so it doesn't make sense for me to set up anything bigger (I know you can use some umbrella companies but honestly it sounds like an overkill - the job is worth just above a grand).
How can I invoice them and how does it influence my taxes etc? I'll appreciate your help.

You can do up an invoice in excel or word or something and that should do them, they will prob only require a bit of paperwork to show to the accounts dept.

On your own side, you will have to inform the revenue of the extra few bob. If you use PAYE online there is a facility there that you can declare extra income, and you may be liable for tax on it.

As above, any invoice will do, as long as it has your name and address and the company you are invoice name and address.

    You do not charge vat!

For your own sake you can file online the extra income on PAYE anytime, or you can print off a Form 12 and file that with revenue. This needs to be done by 31st October the year after you earn. So if you earn this year, you need to return by 31st October next year.

It is also only the profits you will be taxed on, so include any legitimate expenses and deduct them from the income. You will also be liable to PRSI and othe levies on this profit.

How to write the invoice. You need a word Document or something similar.

It needs to have your Name and Address.

The other companies name and address.

    The date

    A description of your service.

E.g. consultancy services for month of October. -

    The amount charged e.g. €1,000

You do not need to charge VAT as you are well under the income limit.

Re the tax situation. Set up a log in for Revenue.ie It takes a couple of days as they post stuff to you.

Then declare the income under Other income I think they call it schedule E.

They then send your employer notification to reduce your tax credits this year. You will then pay slightly more tax in December on your salary. This covers the income tax for the nixer.
