Counter Reserve problem

I left a counter reserve book back in the box marked for this purpose today. I checked my account this evening and it appears that either the library staff have messed up or someone has stolen the book from the box. This is the last time I leave any book in one of those boxes. The book has not been returned and I have a fine of €0.25 on my account. Don't the library have someone to occasionally check these books back in? This is extremely irritating as I followed their rules and returned the book on time, it is their fault if the book has been stolen or logged in late, the box is clearly marked.

Oh my god, a whole 25c! This is scandalous, a true outrage, you should bring this straight to the Provost himself right away to inform him of this horrible injustice!

Don't panic! Did you contact the Library? Normally if this happens you are told to ring the Library in the morning, after Staff have done a full search for the book in question. It'll probably have turned up in the morning and it'll be sorted out for you.

I'd imagine the op is more worried that it may have gone missing so therefore the fine may increase.

The book obviously has been returned or there wouldnt be such a huge fine on your account..it would still be listed as "overdue".
It simply appears that you returned teh book late..it would need to be returned to generate a fine and the penalty is 25 cent per hour.

The 25c accrues every hour the book is overdue and the €50 fee plus the cost of replacing the book was more of a worry. The book was reshelved by a member of the library staff without being logged. In future I'll wait and make sure they do their job. This is not the first time this has happened either from reading other posts here.

Yes, because you have never made a mistake in your life. Human beings are not machines, there are accidents and mistakes are made, it's part of life. They are the exception, not the rule. Did you get the fine rescinded/refunded? If so, you have nothing to complain about.

I'm not bothered by what you think, you've shown the nature of your attitude quite clearly. Why even post in this thread at all? Oh right, you have nothing better to do than mock and criticize? Good for you.

Well then how did it generate a fine if it wasnt "logged"?

As i said,if it wasnt returned(to use the correct term),it wouldnt have showed up as the enormous sum of 25 cents it would have been listed as "overdue".
I contend that you dropped the book back late, thats all.

If it was the fault of the library staff i suggest that rather than get your knickers in a twist here on boards you go to counter reserve, produce the book from the shelf and say "This wasnt taken off my account".
Busy though the staff are,the person on counter reserve will nearly always remove the book from the readers record before reshelving it..if a mistake has been made you're 25 cents better off.
